Even if it does play a little like a cut-down version of a longer series, Hitler vs Picasso still has fascinating moments, some unique insights and a wealth of personal - often heartbreaking - histories to tell. Go to Full Review

This Italian documentary - presented with wary historic perspective by the actor Toni Servillo - diligently details how the fascist beliefs of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi regime clashed with the creative breadth of modern art in the 1930s. Go to Full Review

07/27/2019 I saw this documentary about a year ago and it was love at first sight. The film is excellent, it can be said that it is divided into two parts or topics that are explained in an interleaved way but without losing interest or jumping information (excellent for not talking about a topic). These two themes may be the Nazi search for 'perfect' art (theft to gallery owners and merchants, both Jewish and non-Jewish) and their persecution of 'degenerate' art: their arguments and measures. The wonderful documentary also includes a few stories of war heroes, in this case, involved with art and some modern discoveries of lost art pieces, all told by great art intellectuals and historians of all kinds. It is a wonderful documentary that, despite talking about almost every part of the subject, does not exhaust it and encourages the viewer to investigate leaving certain questions implicitly and that also provides enough information to leave anyone satisfied. As for the photographic spelling of the feature film (pieces, galleries, landscapes, foreground shots of lighting interviews, and others) it is impressive and of a professional's brand. Also noteworthy is the quantity and quality of videos and photographs from the archives of the Second World War that are of great accompaniment to the documentary. It is truly exciting and fills the viewer of courage, bravery, and fascination as well as other emotions, such as rage and outrage about crimes, on a subject as deep and incredible as art history, very well described and exposed by the film, before and during Hitler's third Reich.
