08/20/2019 A very weird film - I enjoyed it when I was a child but I think even then the animation and songs were creepy enough to limit the amount of times I watched it. See more 12/17/2015 It's rather cute. If you're a little bit tired of all the CGI and all the atempts of being majestic and action and stuff, and instead want something simpler and calmer, than you should look this up. Sure, it has animation that repeats itself a lot, but you should keep in mind that the studio that made this movie (Croatia Film) had a much lower budget and possibilities than american studios. While there isn't really all that much character development, it somewhat manages to make up for it with heartwarming moments and fun characters. Americans accusse this movie having a childish story, but here's the thing. The original story this film is based on is a bit darker than this. Peter Palette is a bit more tragic character, Cactus King is more cruel, Thistle is more panicky, the Beaver is more of a grump, Lilly the fox is arrogant, the list goes on. So, if you ever see an English translation of the book, read it and then watch the movie. Until then, if ever, show the kids this movie if you don't want them to be all that much exposed to violence, or if you have somewhat of a brain to show them stuff that's good. See more 11/27/2012 At first, I thought I was making a mistake when I decided to relive my childhood by watching this animation. I mean, how entertaining can an obscure children's movie from 1986 Croatia be? Well, it's definitely not Disney. The few musical numbers are pretty terrible and the voice acting is amateur at best. Maybe I'm seeing it through rose colored glasses, but I feel like the artwork, animation, and storyline are charming. For an hour and a half, I was five years old again, sitting on the living room floor of my parent's house. I also found the beer/alcohol references humorous. See more 11/09/2010 Parents are so worried about drugs and their kids being depressed and drinking, then do not show them this movie, like wow i haven't seen so much drug promotion in along time,i don't think thats what they were going for but seriously this movie is both a acid trip and a reason to start drinking, the story revolves around a painter who has to save the forest from some evil king who wants to destroy it or something along those lines(which isn't the bad part)everything else is a mess, the critters in the forst make you want to kill yourself because they are either sugary or really annoying, the songs in it are ridiclious and cheese, and the end montage comes straight out of somebodies mushroom trip, besides that if you want some different bad terrible movies, check it out if you dare,i bet you can't make it till the end without, drinking, smoking up or turning it off. See more 07/29/2010 Freaked me out when my mum put it on continuously for me when i was a kid. Even to this day it freaks me out. Enough said! See more Read all reviews
