A different spin on the psycho-dramas if the period... is she imagining or is there actually a family conspiracy? The truth - and happiness - is often somewhere in between. And why is it that Simmons so often seems to be the voice-double of Audrey Hepburn?

An oldie but a real-goodie! Jean Simmons comes home from a mental institution to find the truth about why she was there in the first place. Made in 1958 in gold old black and white... Til done!

A sad and tragic drama about sanity and relationships. Although it raised good issues, I was left sad.

Unjustly obscure drama with an outstanding performance from Jean Simmons. Attempting a serious look at the fragile period after release for treatment of mental distress this does a good unsentimental job with a somber tone and excellent work from the entire cast with the always excellent Jean delivering one of her career best.

Once again, a mess, and a long one at that! The movie is over 2 hours long! It moves like molasses, and seems to be directed by Mervyn LeRoy in a coma. But is there a reason to see it? Yes! Jean Simmons gives perhaps her most brilliant performance ever. Her subtlety, her incredible control and her strength are fully on display. The other actors range from good (Dan O'Herlihy and Stephen Dunne) to annoying (Mabel Albertson and Rhonda Fleming - i was particularly disappointed in Rhonda Fleming, because she is usually a solid actress, but here she seemed vacuous), but that doesn't matter: Jean Simmons shows a range and a depth of emotion which are simply breathtaking. As a virtuoso display of a great actress's art, HOME BEFORE DARK can't be beat. Too bad this movie isn't more available, because Jean Simmons as a woman struggling with her sanity is worth every effort to see.
