On the planet of Krull, an evil creature called the Beast decimates the world's army and kidnaps the lovely Princess Lyssa, who is destined to become queen. Her brave beau, Prince Colwyn, leads a motley band of warriors, including Ergo and Kegan, to rescue his beloved. However, before he can face the Beast, Colwyn must locate a mystical weapon known as the Glaive, which he can use to slay the hideous villain.

Mr. Sherman... incorporates some wit and intelligence into the proceedings. And Mr. Yates works hard to bring understatement and dimension to the material. His ''Krull,'' which is decorous and dignified throughout, has more depth than excitement.

The result was an enthralling experience that many Kiwi kids at the time preferred to the Ewok-infested, New Hope re-run that was Return of the Jedi... However, 40 years on and Peter Yates’ “intimate epic’ has not aged well.

Hunky pretty gritty boy Kip Winger stars in something that is Star Wars and Dungeons and Dragons and a bunch of other crap that is Sci-Fi and Swords and Sorcery and magicaladventurequests... Lasers. Monsters. Sword fights.. with lasers. Big stupid armor. A demon-thing. An enormous low-budget spiderweb. A magical weapon that solves the Plot. A big one-eyed dumbass.. This movie has it all. Everything you need and you're looking for. If you are a God damn nerd, you'll love it. If you watch anything, you'll love it. If you are bored as f*$# on a weekend night because you're a total loser in life and with women you'll love it. (Your would-be girlfriend would probably hate it). I strongly feel that this movie felt it would have a sequel or a trilogy.. But don't they all.

Impeccably wise/funny one liners, plentiful plot armor, mediocre acting, impressive stunts, more unexplained plot armor, perfect pacing of introducing the antagonist, and beautiful scenery. All that I can ask from an 80s Dark Fantasy film, as Ergo says “Not impressive, but adequate”. The build up to The Beast is lovely accompanied by an interesting adventure. A improved final battle with the beast and going more in depth about the pit stops of the journey would have fixed a lot. In all reality it’s an incredible film if you aren’t pretentious and are fine with a half decent script and a 80s budget movie. Top tier dark fantasy, definitely recommend

IMPORTANT: Do not watch this movie. It's long and boring, and I don't care if Liam Neeson is in it. This movie is iconic for one reason, and that's a glaive. So, if you can associate a glaive with this movie, then your cultured. You're good to go. But please, don't feel the urge to watch it. I wanted that time back. Side note, the title rhymes with the word "dull"-- with is also what it is.
