av 8 @anagha.vinay May 10 For a 2001 movie, the graphics were great. What I noticed right from the beginning were the impressive lighting effects. The shots were also engaging, and quite something to behold towards the end. The cinematography nailed the videogame-like immersion. As much as I love the diva that Jolie is, I feel that her character was a sexually exaggerated representation in this movie, and that really got under my skin. Tight clothes, a bad wardrobe, an unnecessary nude glimpse, and her sultry poses and moans—ugh. Absolutely hated every bit of that. The characters entered and exited the scenes in a jiffy and their development was poor. The plot was a mess and some of the action sequences felt so weak. We know anyway that at the end of the day, Lara's going to save it. There is no additional thrill. Also, Lara is much too destructive. What did she do to Simon?!!! And the CARS?!!! Lara Croft fails spectacularly with character development, with making me feel anything for any of the characters, or getting me to care what happens to any of them. There’s lots of action, but it all falls flat, because I just don’t give a damn. I give Lara Croft half a star for giving me a glimpse at Daniel Craig’s earlier career before he became James Bond, and half a star for one brief moment where Craig’s character picks up a gun, and reminds me how awesome Craig was as James Bond. Half a star goes to Angelina Jolie just for being so hot. Another half star goes to Jolie for bringing some heart to what seemed like the only real substance the movie had to offer, which was Lara’s grief for her father’s tragic, untimely death. But come on now, Angelina Jolie doin’ backflips and shooting pistols. Count me in, this and Cradle of Life were really underrated films. This director Simon West did movies that I love like Con Air, Black Hawk Down, The Mechanic, and etc. But, I’ma give Lara Croft: Tomb Raider a 7/10 or a 4.3/5 stars. This movie is so underrated.
