Newlyweds John and Jenny Grogan leave behind snowy Michigan and move to Florida, where they buy their first home and find jobs at competing newspapers. Soon afterward, the Grogans adopt Marley, a yellow Labrador pup. But Marley soon grows up to be a mischievous handful. Still, even while he's destroying the furniture and failing obedience school, he always manages to bring out the best in John, Jenny and their growing family.

Sometimes, and especially on a crummy afternoon in the middle of March, it's nice to be able to switch off and settle down to enjoying the sight of middle-class families eating well and playing together in sprawling, bucolic gardens.

The production is light, filled with big love and sobbing cries, two talented stars that sufficiently play their roles, and plenty of awww moments the movie makes sure to replay during the end credits. What’s not to enjoy?

Many people think of Marley & Me as a dog movie, but it’s not, really. It’s a slice-of-life story about marriage and family told during the lifespan of one dog. And it packs a seriously powerful emotional punch. Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston give a very realistic portrayal of a relationship and its ups and downs. This movie does tend to focus on the downs more than the ups, but the characters weather the storms well, so it doesn’t feel overly heavy. Marley & Me will make you cry, though. It will make you cry hard. But that’s okay, because we could all use a big cry every now and then, right?

*Marley & Me* is a heartfelt and relatable film that captures the joys and challenges of pet ownership in a very real way. Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston bring natural chemistry to their roles, making the story feel grounded and sincere. Marley himself is both chaotic and lovable, providing plenty of humor while also serving as the emotional core of the film. While the movie follows a fairly predictable path, its honest portrayal of family life and the bond between humans and their pets makes it resonate. It’s funny, touching, and bittersweet by the end. Overall, a solid and emotionally engaging film that earns its 7/10.
