Chris B @Papa13070 Jun 11 This film is one of Clint Eastwood's best films ever!!! The story is simple but draws you in and never let's go. The characters are simply too thrilling. Hillary Swank steals the show a bit with a sad and brutal story of a very tormented woman's life with incredible power. Enough to bring viewers to tears in fact. Morgan Freeman is great as a supporting actor and he definitely deserves some recognition for his performance. Clint Eastwood himself deserves an Oscar for his excellent directing and own spectacular performance. His role was perfect, creating a strong yet vulnerable character people will embrace. The climax will touch you as his character is given a choice that decides life and death. It's not just about boxing but life and the choices we make. A fine film. Boxing has never been a theme that really interests me, and the film constantly made me check the clock. I even fell asleep at one point. Still, the second half is much stronger: more emotional, tense and engaging. I understand why the movie was praised, especially because of its message about sacrifice and ambition, but it only works halfway for me. The idea of giving everything for a dream feels both inspiring and uncomfortable, almost like the film romanticizes suffering and tragedy. The characters are a mixed bag. Clint Eastwood starts off as cold and unbearable, though I ended up understanding him more as the story progressed. Hilary Swank gives a solid performance, but her emotional journey never fully hit me. Morgan Freeman, however, is easily the best part of the film. It has a number of very relatable themes, father daughter, aloneness, determination to succeed, redemption and so on Hilary Swank turns in a truly wonderful performance. See more VITALII H @freakynickison May 15 I’ve heard and I knew about this movie but I never actually watched it. Now I finally did and I absolutely loved what I saw. This was such a powerful and meaningful movie. Towards the ending it turned into a sob fest for me personally. Very strong and simplistic at the same time and it worked beautifully. The immaculate writing and the dialogues were very well acted. I am speechless, highly recommend. I kinda like the mystery behind Frankie that was never fully solved. We don’t know about him much but the way he carries himself in the movie gives us some hints and the idea what happened in his life.
