My Father's Glory (La Gloria de Mon Pere) Reviews

This movie is pure garbage. There is literally no conflict so it doesn't even properly qualify as a story.

Contrived and over-directed diary of the young Marcel Pagnol's idyllic summer holiday. Nothing happens, everyone smiles, no-one dies. Jean de Florette it ain't.

A young boy's life in turn-of-the-century France. Marcel(Real person named " Marcel Pagnol "), witnesses the success of his teacher father, as well as the success of his arrogant Uncle Jules. Marcel and family spend their summer vacation in a cottage in Provence, and Marcel befriends a local boy who teaches him the secrets of the hills in Provence.

Beautifully filmed childhood reminisces of Marcel Pagnol, set in 1910 in the hills around Provencal. More an examination of Pagnol's adoration of his family and country life, the film is loosely themed around Marcel's determination to bolster his father's perceived omniscience, and his discovering in the process that adult's are not perfect either. Lush, gentle and idyllic, a superb film.

Ok, i saw the second film 'My Mothers Castle' first! This makes sense now! Beautifully filmed, childhood story. Obviously see this first.....lol Favorite lines - 'They're all mine. That's why they call me Edmond Flutterby' .... (reply) 'If they called you Edmond Goat-turd, they'd be yours too?'. Wonderful landscapes of Provence.
