Phoenix is shot in dark, restrained tones. It's unremittingly grim for the first half hour in its observation of the details of Jill's life.

This is definitely a film to see at the cinema and if we want more interesting and complex stories such as this then we must show it by bums on seats.

The first half works better, but as a claustrophobic, psychological study...it's an interesting piece.

Intelligent and uncompromising, this s a film that may break your heart but one you won't want to miss.

Perhaps Henriksen is too close to her subject matter in this directorial debut, but its power and promise are undeniable.

Phoenix has a huge heart, aching for its cast, and while it feels like it's only ever on the verge of getting anywhere, it's still a keen, candid character study.

I found the seductively Scandinavian Instagramable interiors and freakishly good-looking blond leads increasingly distracting.

powerful drama which revolves around a breakout central performance from Ylva Bjørkaas Thedin.

The film envelopes the audience in the turbulent emotions of a childhood with a depressive, alcoholic, yet loving mother.

A mournful, impressively assured first feature from Norwegian actress-turned-writer-director Camilla Strøm Henriksen.

For a glimpse into a home that is not really a home, and for second chances that are unfulfilled, spend time with the brave Jill.
October 12, 2018
In this haunting character study, Henriksen seamlessly moves the story from social drama, through fantasy elements, to grandiose lifestyles, depending on which character has authority over the scene.

Phoenix continues to suffer from a lack of momentum that consistently holds the viewer at arms length...
