A laugh from start to finish, completely fell in love with the film
enjoyable romp through the Northern Soul scene of the late 70's with obviously amazing soundtrack.
The story is itself is not that much of a surprise, girl loves boy, boy loves other girl but in the end they find each other, seen a 1000 times...but what is really outstanding is the music and the dance scenes, if you are into Northern Soul, this movie will make your day! Keep the faith!
A very effective recreation of mid 70s Midlands & Northern Soul youth culture. Nicely characterised with a well balanced cast and full of well thought out period touches. Short and sweet!
Excellent 70's costumes and sets, the story is somewhat weaker than its look, but passable.
The problem with making a film that looks and sounds like Confessions of a Window Cleaner is that you have to include some of the laughs that made us forget how crap those films were in the 70s. While Soulboy earns a modicum of respect for the note-perfect music, wardrobe and production design, the dialogue is clunky and the story line, while aiming at the rose-tinted nostalgia factor, laughably cliched. Tragic.
Set in Stoke on Trent in 1974 it follows a young man intent on winning the girl of his dreams, which take him to the famous soul club in Wigan
Try's hard to be the quadrophenia of northern soul but doesn't quite pull it off. Still entertaining enough so watchable at least!!
