After her widowed father dies, deaf teenager Dot (Camilla Belle) moves in with her godparents, Olivia (Edie Falco) and Paul (Martin Donovan) Deer. The Deers' daughter, Nina (Elisha Cuthbert), is openly hostile to Dot, but that does not prevent her from telling her secrets to her silent stepsister, including the fact that she wants to kill her lecherous father.

In retrospect, it is Belle who manages to acquit herself best with a role that never quite makes sense, but affords her some expressive, silent sequences. Surely she will find other film work and then quietly drop The Quiet from her biography.

The Quiet may be a mess, but it's an exceedingly entertaining one, with a host of fine actors keeping their characters on as tight a leash as a film heading for this particular kind of crash landing allows.

1st this is not a thriller, it is a tragedy. It is a slice of hidden sad sick family secrets and how the resolution does not leave you cheering for the empowerment of the characters , rather sad for the total loss of innocence. Some of the supporting high school characters are over the top and detract from the movie. There is pure evil in this world and it is sad that it is person who supposed to be the protector.

The Quiet is actually a great movie with good acting and a surprisingly clever twist. Camilla Belle and Elisha Cuthbert both put in top notch performances but the standout here is Camilla Belle. It starts out like your average teen thriller set in high school. While Nina is the stuck up popular girl her godsister Dot who just moved in is a loner. It doesn't take long for the suspense to build. Fortuately one of the themes isn't really shown as much because the dad was very creepy. In the end The Quiet is a effective and surprisingly fun teen thriller. I really dug it.
