How can anyone hate this?

The chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman is sweet, and given time to develop. The movie also has a good concept, but my problem is that the jokes don't land as well as they should.

I adore those movie. Superb performances from Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. It has a heartwarming story to it. Lonely Lucy (having lost her father) gets a second chance at family. Falls in love in the process. I'm happy with how this movie ended as well. 5 gold stars for this movie and Sandra Bullock.

Not a romantic comedy fan generally but this is a great movie. It's cute and funny and romantic and doesn't feel forced. What really makes it work though, it the natural chemistry between Bill Pullman and Sandra Bullock, who are both excellent in this movie. They work so well together and the relationship between them just feels so natural and perfect, they could not have picked better leads for this movie.

Despite Its Title, This Film Won't Put You to Sleep

Director Jon Turteltaub and writers Fredric Lebow and Daniel G. Sullivan don't disappoint with their feel-good rom-com While You Were Sleeping. Sandra Bullock's starring performance of Lucy Moderatz, a lonely Chicago Transit worker, speaks to the souls of all hopeless romantics. As in her other films, Bullock brings depth, a witty sense of humor, and spunk to her portrayal of Lucy.

Lucy lives alone, with few friends and no living family to spend the holidays with. Every day for months at her job as a token collector at a CTA train station, Lucy secretly crushes on Peter Callahan, a handsome Chicago lawyer who is unaware of Lucy's existence because she lacks the courage to talk to him. On Christmas morning, two men push Peter onto the tracks as they are attempting to rob him. Fearless Lucy jumps onto the tracks to rescue unconscious Peter from an oncoming train. As Peter is rushed to the hospital, a nurse mistakenly assumes Lucy is Peter's fiancé and tells his entire family. Lucy does not have the heart to tell his distressed family the truth so she continues to play along. Throughout the film, Lucy steals the hearts of Peter's crazy but loving family. The plot takes a dramatic twist when Peter's brother Jack starts to develop feelings for Lucy. Peter, unfortunately, can't settle this chaos because he is stuck in a coma.

Like Lucy, you can't help but fall in love with the dynamic and caring Callahan family. Familiar actors like Peter Boyle, Jack Warden, and Bill Pullman's playful banter and fatherly advice remind us all what it's like to be a part of a loving family that stands together regardless of heartache or trial. Part of what makes this film so entertaining is the contagious and clever chemistry between Bullock and Pullman, who make this humorous romance both relatable and worth watching. Viewers anxiously watch this story unfold in hopes that Lucy and Jack will end up together. Despite its title, "While You Were Sleeping," is definitely a film you won't fall asleep in.

This film shouldn't have the kind of charm, cinematic ease and nostalgia it has. It works. I like it. Fuck.

No surprises here. "While You Were Sleeping" is heartfelt and funny, but also predictable.

This offbeat romantic comedy has some rather dark underpinnings that add, rather than detract from the fun. It is the story of Lucy, an extremely lonely young woman who works as a toll-taker for the Chicago Transit Authority. She is secretly in love with a handsome stranger in a camel-hair coat who passes by her every day but never even says hello to her. Just before Christmas, she is at work when she sees her "love" pushed, mugged and shoved off the train platform. Without hesitation she leaps down to pull the unconscious fellow out of the path of a speeding train. Later in the hospital, a series of complex misunderstandings occur and the woman is mistaken for the man's fiancee. As he is deeply comatose, Lucy goes along with it, much to the delight of the man's loud, dysfunctional family. Lucy has no real family, and she is happy to be a part of his strange brood. To make sure she stays, she decides to take certain liberties with her sleeping husband-to-be. Meanwhile, she and the patient's brother find themselves drawn to each other.

This was a lovely movie. It was completely unrealistic, but lovely nonetheless. I adore Sandra Bullock, so she playing the lonely but charming Lucy won me over right away. Ultimately it was a cute movie for a night in. Worth seeing at least once.

The best romcom ever! I love this movie so much that I can't even put my feelings into words. Sandy is of course fabulous here. One of her best movies, IMO.

This is Sandra Bullock at her best. Her roles in romantic comedies helped shaped for career for many years to come after this film's release. This film is sweet and wholesome and offers America the feel good love story that we all really want. There are movies that receive critical acclaim, but you might only watch those films once. This is a movie to watch over and over again.
