Great cast and great movie. Grew up in the 80s playing hockey. And if you don't like this version then go make your own updated version. I guarantee it won't be as good.
A typical 80s film with every small bit thrown in for good measures- action, romance, anger and sex. The ladies get to see a young Rob Lowe in his prime and others get an okay story about an American hockey player who plays in the Canadian league. Patrick Swayze also stars and you can even spot a really young Keanu Reeves somewhere in there. All in all this is one of those Sunday afternoon films you can watch when nothing else is on.

Lowe is well cast in the lead and gives the film a character who is flawed but interesting. The film isn't a classic by any means, the support cast is hit and miss, while the director seems intent on making the film comical. The ice hockey scenes are the real treat and that's where the film shines. The film plays out like most 80s films and is quite over the top but never at the expense of boring the audience. Not without its flaws this cult film has a core audience that has lived on over time, just remember that there isn't a lot of great ice hockey films out there. The film plays out like a Top Gun on ice with Swayze and Lowe giving it all as the bromance two of the film. 08-08-2017.
It's cheesy, but is fun nonetheless with a great message. Lowe and Swayze work great together. Any hockey fan should enjoy.
Dramatic yarn about an ice hockey player and his struggles.
Farmboy hits the ice to prove he can play hockey. He soon falls in love with his coaches daughter. Not a sports classic but definitely better than the assembly line teen movies of its time.
American farm boy makes it in Canadian junior hockey in Hamilton. Marked by a great performances on and off the ice, most notably by Ed Lauter as Coach Chadwick and George Finn as the enforcer Racki. Longtime NHL'er Eric Nesterenko plays Rob Lowe's father and passes down a few tips. Great to see the league assign their top official, Hannah, to control the deciding game. A real crowd pleaser.
i was shocked at the amount of violence but it grew around me
This was just not executed in a way that worked for me at all! I was soooo bored during this that it is a miracle I made it to the end.
