Tv Season Info

Nick Willing, who directed a retelling of "The Wizard of Oz" called "Tin Man" back in 2007, penned and helmed this reimagining of the famous Lewis Carroll tales following yet another girl who becomes lost in a very strange realm. Caterina Scorsone stars as a full-grown, martial-artist version of the heroine. When Alice witnesses a man's abduction and tries to intervene, it results in a trip through a magic mirror to a parallel universe and a confrontation with the Queen of Hearts (Kathy Bates).

If "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" author Charles Dodgson, better known by his pseudonym Lewis Carroll, were to wander into the Wonderland of the Syfy network's two-night miniseries "Alice," he might find himself quite lost.

Alice picks up a copy of one of Carroll's books -- and then quickly puts it down again. Putting it down quickly, however, is a preferable alternative to spending four hours at the same joyless task.

If you're going to do that, you should at least keep the elements that made the original so great in the first place.

One of the lesser "Alice in Wonderland" adaptations I've come across. It's too self-referential for its own good.
