Counterpart is more than a trending topic. It feels like a series that's here to stay.
There are elements that don't work in Counterpart, and more of them with each passing episode, but Simmons keeps it often riveting. It's a performance you simply have to see. Actually, it's two.

Not everything meshes entirely smoothly, but the series' style and substance are apparent from the start.

Throughout all the setup of this riven world, imagined by show creator Justin Marks, Simmons shines. His performance as both Howards is endlessly entertaining, and it kept me engaged in the story even when I wasn't certain exactly what was happening.

What makes the show work is that it invests very little in selling the science of this concept, choosing to craft a taut, suspenseful spy thriller rather than a more fantastical work of science fiction.

Counterpart shows a remarkable willingness to move away from the status quo and to keep the story moving forward.
