Episode Info

Named after the Rodgers and Hart evergreen "My Funny Valentine," made into the hard bop classic by Miles Davis, this sentimental episode focuses on Faye Valentine's search for her elusive past. Largely told in flashback, Faye tells her life story -- or what she remembers of it -- to the data dog, Ein. Having been revived from cryogenic sleep, Faye had no memories of her past coupled with a massive hospital debt. As she tells the story of her involvement with her lawyer, she is faced with a current bounty head who is a womanizing con man.

Critic Reviews for My Funny Valentine

A wonderful little episode, one that knows when to bring the group back together and how long Faye should get to spend in her memories.

While there's not a lot of action, this episode is all backstory and character arc, which is something this show does so well. Faye is still a mystery, but now we know she isn't a mystery of her own choosing.

If Faye wants to know who she really is, she won't find the answers she's looking for in her past but in what she decides to do next. It's a cliché but here, within the context of the episode, it's well-earned.
