What to Know

Critics Consensus

While it claims to have the Almighty's favor, this silver screen collaboration between Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone is too dunderheaded to win over everyday viewers.

It is essentially The Office meets The Good Place, but with anarchic disregard for what made those shows so formally admirable. Junk food for your comedy soul. Go to Full Review

God’s Favourite Idiot is a series with no distinctive qualities, no personality, no purpose and it’s screaming, “No reason to watch.” Go to Full Review

More often than not, the show’s sometimes endless willingness to get bogged down in office-life wordplay threatens to render the sublime mundane, rather than the other way around. Go to Full Review

The laughs are few and far between. Nothing about God’s Favorite Idiot lives up to expectation. Go to Full Review

An easy, breezy watch, it’s unforced pro-God story floating on a host of congenially goofball performances...Melissa McCarthy’s signature snark and Ben Falcone’s love of dorky dialogue set the tone. Go to Full Review

This 8-episode comedy is a welcoming break if you’re an existing fan of Falcone and McCarthy’s double-act and the silliness and slapstick that they bring to the table. Go to Full Review

Pierre C @RT60696525 06/03/2025 Terrible show. Boring, trite, banal, not a laugh in sight. Melissa Macarthy is capable of so much more than this. Bad writing. See more Justin E @RT80238624 03/30/2025 I really enjoyed it hopefully they don't get discouraged and finish the series. See more Aaron C @RT50297281 03/25/2025 You guys need to bring it back it's funny I read some of the reviews and they don't know comedy or good vs evil with adose of great writing and comedic genius you guys never give anything a chance to catch on I've showed it to people and they love it and still ask me to this date why in the hell it was canceled all I'm saying is at least pitch it to another network like B.E.T+ trust it'll catch See more Nicole O @RT08307438 03/20/2025 This show is way underrated, in my opinion. It is enjoyable, funny, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. The characters have chemistry. Wish there was a second season. See more Greg M @SolisisQ 02/11/2025 Weak. Just as convoluted as any other religiously interwoven trash. It could have been good though. It just takes the whole "nobody shuts the door behind them in a zombie story" and keeps spinning it over and over. Too many obvious things. Too much meaningless, witless banter. Too many "everything that's wrong with hollywood today" and too little reason to care to keep watching. Do yourself a favor and just don't start watching it. It has 8 episodes, wraps nothing up by the end, and just cliff hangs you with the tentative "maybe" that they will bother filming the rest of the episodes for season 1... yeah, that's how they're doing things these days. This season was supposed to have 16 episodes, so I guess they only make the rest of them if things go well. Behaving like this isn't likely to get you the positive ratings needed to convince the house to pay up for more. But hey, maybe if they did, the first 8 episodes could be seen as "new guy in new territory" build up and maybe this stupid thing could end up being decent. I don't know, and after the first 8 episodes, I don't care. See more TI H @MeInCharacter 10/27/2024 GOD’S FAVORITE IDIOT is a silly comedy about a mild-mannered nice guy whom God chooses to spread “the Word” during desperate times, because there is a new war in Heaven, and the good guys are losing. I thought this would be an update on the movie OH, GOD! (John Denver, George Burns), but I was wrong. There’s very little time spent on spreading the Word. Rather, we watch our heroes slack off at work, be mean to one another, and run from Satan. The idea is that every religion has been right all along about the nature of God, which is hogwash, because the show clearly pushes Christianity in our faces. The humor would have been considered smart fifteen years ago, but there’s nothing fresh about it now. It’s muddled banter that illustrates the awkwardness of human beings and their coolness in the face of danger. One particular character, Tom, is treated like dirt throughout the season. I name him, because he’s the only character worth being named. God herself literally praises Tom’s #1 bully, played by Melissa McCarthy, as “good people.” She's not good people. She's lazy, rude, unlikeable. I must admit that I did smile and laugh at a joke at least once per episode, but I needed more to make this a worthwhile show--such as likeable characters. The season ends on a cliffhanger that feels anticlimactic. There was no attempt to tell a meaningful story. See more Read all reviews
