God's Favorite Idiot: Season 1 (2022)

Season 1
God's Favorite Idiot

Critics Consensus

While it claims to have the Almighty's favor, this silver screen collaboration between Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone is too dunderheaded to win over everyday viewers.

Melissa is just plain funny. And she's a joy to watch with her husband here. They are delightful. Is the plot kinda silly? Sure, but watch Melissa drop those one liners--the best timing with just the right touch -- over and over again. As Arty on the Larry Sanders Show would have said, she's pure comedy gold.

Mediocre, dry and mostly boring. It has its small highlight points and funny moments, but I really needed to force myself through it. Not something I'd really recommend.

Its funny yet eye opening on the simple understanding of how religion is viewed in the world and the impact on the world. The comedy portion is great i love melissa melissa.

Millions of dollars were spent making this. Millions. Close your eyes for a few seconds and take that in. And this was just god awful. If you think otherwise you should probably get a CT scan performed on your brain.

I thought this was charming. The collective B stories were engaging (if not done deeply because of pacing considerations), Satan was a trip, and the spiritually-themed "dude with a problem" setup worked for me. Ben's kind of unambitious nice guy contrasted well with the heaviness of his responsibilities. I also didn't mind the contrast between office banalities and the ongoing supernatural megawar--for me that was part of the humor (and Ana Scotney was adorbs). Good soundtrack too. This looks like one of those shows I liked but the critics kind of weirdly didn't dig (others in that category for me: Don't Look Up, and Brain Dead (anyone?)).

God's Favorite Idiot isn't great but it is almost always entertaining. The critics, as usual, are far too full of self-importance to just enjoy what's fun, funny, entertaining and ultimately very sweet about this series. Mccarthy, Falcone and crew have some hilarious moments and some misses. But overall it's so off the wall and unhinged from any sense of format or formula that not knowing where it will go next is half the fun. The first few episodes are super funny, even hilarious. Then as the story develops it does lose some steam in terms of comedic hits but it's still fun and funny enough as the story randomly goes off the rails that the season as a whole is very worth watching. Half of the fun for me, aside from the moments of ture comedic gold, is the fact that the writing seems to know no bounds for all things dumb, silly and ultimately sweet. Let's hope there is another season!

JFC people need to f**king relax, stop pigeon holing this in to a set genre. Live outside the box. it is what it is. I enjoyed the acting, the story line. The banter. Enjoy it for it for what it is. It's no stranger things, or mass market comedy but its a show, a filler. I enjoyed the characters chemistry, the dialogue. leave it at that.

How do the critics get the ratings oh so wrong, oh so too many times. Literally void any weight the "10" "critics" that rated this show carry. Melissa and Ben give a fresh twist on a recycled concept. The characters all worked, the dialogue was great, and the show had me hooked and wanting more from the first episode. The soundtrack was second to none, and Ben Falcone was so damn likeable in this show. I was glowing after watching this show, forget Ben's glow. Shame on those critics who scored it low. Hope for a follow up season.

Absolutely HILARIOUS! It offends all religions in the most hilarious way! The one liners in this show kill me!
