James Gordon is a rising detective in the dangerously corrupt Gotham City, where his late father was a successful district attorney. Brave, honest and determined to prove himself, Gordon must navigate the dirty politics of Gotham's justice system as well as the rise of malevolent villains, including The Penguin, The Riddler and Catwoman. The series also chronicles the life of young Bruce Wayne, who becomes an orphan when his billionaire parents Thomas and Martha Wayne are murdered. Gordon becomes a friend to young Bruce as he finds his way toward becoming the iconic caped crusader.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Gotham concludes in a glorious free-for-all that takes full advantage of the series' dense roster of colorful villains, making for an extended climax that is equal parts daffy and thrilling.

This ending ensures a legacy alongside the other prominent Bat-stories, but it's the series' gonzo approach to a cop drama that distinguishes it altogether. Go to Full Review

The finale felt more obligatory than soaring, bringing the show to a landing that felt mildly satisfying, but more than anything, overdue. Go to Full Review

[It's] is certainly a solid enough start to the season. Go to Full Review

Gotham's final season isn't a complete and total trainwreck, nor does it ruin past seasons that came before, but it's a massive disappointment for a show that fully embraced how dark and ridiculous it was. Go to Full Review

Unfortunately for the viewers, what we got was pretty much more of what season four had been: bland villains and misguided storylines. Go to Full Review

Moody C @MoodyC Apr 9 Starts out strong and then at around fourth season you have boring storylines, characters behaving really dumb, and viewer just don’t care anymore. The acting is not the best and the more I watch McKenzie, I feel he’s a bad actor. It is really interesting to see almost every Batman villain come to life which you may never see at movies since they usually rehash same old ones. My fave here is Solomon Grundy. You finally see Batman in final episode as well as a fat Penguin in a suit, Riddler in question marks suit, and Catwoman with mask. Strangely, Gordon finally dons a mustache but then in final minutes, it mysteriously disappears! Total mess. It’s as if right before last episode they got word that next episode is last because of no more budget and so they need to do make sure all loose ends are tied to the Batman lore we all know. Also, last season is only 12 episodes instead of 22. I’m kinda glad it ended because it felt like actors and writers are both tired since the last two seasons are the worst of any streaming. See more Paul S Apr 7 I really liked the show, but I don't think this was the best ending for it. Overall it was still really fun to watch, and I really enjoyed the entire show. I definitely recommend it for Batman and superhero fans! See more Enzo D 11/30/2024 TOTALLY amazing. Plot, photography, EVERYTHING. See more Amir S 11/17/2024 All good and perfect, the epic end to a good series. See more Ava S @avast 09/25/2024 I have been stalling to watch the last episode for, no joke, a MONTH. A MONTH. and it was a solid ending for it but I feel like it was sort of a let down. edit:why do I actually hate the last episode so much what it sucks and I lowkey don’t like jeremiah which is saying a lot bc I always love him and the last episode is just lacking EVERYTHING -I hate Ecco with a passion. seriously. -I love jeremiah so much genuinely -I say this for all of the seasons, whoever designed cameron monaghan’s costumes (MOSTLY jeremiah) deserves awards for it like what -so glad bruce and selina finally got together and then HE HAS TO LEAVE AND NOT EVEN TALK TO HER PERSONALLY AND WRITE HER A STUPID LETTER what is with Bruce and letters like TALK IT OUT -lee doesn’t and never did deserve nygma -I audibly gasped when jeremiah “died” in EP 7 -wait wait wait, so gordon got shot like five million times by sofia falcone and didn’t die, and then in EP 9 he gets shot once and is like fighting for his life -(EP 10) oswald and the baby are such a power duo -I kinda feel bad for david(Bruce) and camren (Selina) bc everyone got to act together one last time in the last episode but they had their actors changed, like I get you want selina to look older but for old times sake KEEP THE SAME ACTORS and she got sooooo ugly in last ep like what -again, I love jeremiah WAIT WAIT lemme quote him a couple times from this season *ahem* “you see *exxxhallleesss* a riveR cuts through roCK not because of its POWAH but because of its… persistence. what do we do when we feel like giving up? what do we do when we couldn’t POSSIBLY go on any longer? and what do we-bruh”- jeremiah S5 EP 4 “no he’s gonna love it he’s gonna, hehehe *turns around* AHEM, are these all of the recruits *gives massive side eye to ecco*”- jeremiah S5 EP 4 -will be rewatching parts of this show for the rest of my life -jerome/jeremiah -jeremiah/jerome -cameron monagha- will forever hold a place in my heart/mind, gotta keep those riddles sharp yk (summer of 2024/september 2024) goodbye gotham, I’ll miss you, I mean it’s not like I’m never gonna watch this again BUT STILL See more Gio Z 08/18/2024 For me this was one of the best seasons of the series. It had all the elements to success but it didn't gain big following. Some people thought it was silly and preposterous but in my opinion it was a vibe to watch, and I totally recommend it.
