There are tricks and treats in this sister show to the seasonal "Holiday Baking Championship." Bakers are tasked with creating spooky treats in Halloween-themed challenges. As the competition heats up, judges -- who have included Lorraine Pascale, Stephanie Boswell, Carla Hall and Zac Young -- eliminate contestants. The best keep moving through rounds as the tasks and challenges become more complicated. The champion of the "Main Heat" gets a $25,000 prize and the prestige of being declared winner of the season's creepiest cooking contest.

Jacqueline D @RT58257163 Sep 16 Love the host can't stand these judges their so far up Carla Halls backside you can't even recognize who they are and I thought the original platform worked what the heck is food network thinking you're going to screw up a good thing See more Cindy P @RT81892266 10/23/2024 This season was sad, the set and cast get 1.5 stars but the overall season was off. The contestants displayed poor skills (at least compared to prior season), and many of the outcomes seemed staged in the sense that it seemed almost like judges were just making up excuses to eliminate someone who was really no worse than the others - but some seemed to win as it seemed flaws were overlooked. I think one of the major downfalls was tying the hands of the contestants. Instead of giving them an idea and letting them run with it (like choosing to display their interpretation of the challenge through their own media; cookies, brownie, etc.) everyone had to make the same thing. This works when used sparingly as in everyone make a cake that is a haunted house - but not as in, everyone make tiramisu or everyone make a blinder shaped like a skull). Between this and the odd choice of contestants who didn’t seem as talented (for a baking contest, im sure they’re all amazing at their work), as many of the past contestants, I was bored and never even once rewound for inspiration to make our own treats. As far as the winner - it seemed well deserved, but hard to tell when their creativity was so limited. So far season 10 feels more authentic, so hoping it will continue on a better trajectory. See more Susan O @RT33453989 09/18/2023 Two stars for a funny host and well costumed judges but the contestants and challenges-oh so bad. It seems America has run out of good bakers-all used up in the first eight seasons. The contestants seemed beyond amateurish. They often didn't even know baking terms. Their decorating skills were abysmal. Apparently Food Network was well aware because they set two challenges so basic they should've been on a kids baking show. Even with these unchallenging challenges the bakers' work was very poor. If Food Network couldn't find enough decent bakers maybe bring back prior season champs or finalists so at least we'd see some decent baking. See more Read all reviews
