The concept behind the program sparkles, even if Mr. Rubenstein doesn’t. Go to Full Review
Mark Feeney Boston Globe 04/20/2023
It feels hectic because of the barrage of interviewees (also lots of vintage footage and many archival photos). It feels lazy because it never stops to develop any aspect of Fenway in any depth. Go to Full Review

Dale Timothy W @RT65299654 05/20/2023 I have, so far, watched only episode 4. The iconography of the American Cowboy is a fasscinating subject, and one worth understanding beyond surface images of six shooters and Stetsons. Thanks to PBS and Mr. Rubenstein for trying. But the documentary is a slapdash, clumsy production filled with oversights, errors, bad writing and meat cleaver editing. The focus on rodeo failed to mention a critical fact: all rodeo events rise from real world skills every cowboy must have. The extrodinary museum in Wyoming - the Buffalo Bill Center of the West - and its spokeman Dr. Johnson provided the only credible framework for understanding the seminal role of William F. Cody in creating the pervasive global image of The West. Of real value was the theme of the Old West as a diverse and mutli-ethnic melting pot. David Rubenstein has done a great many good things, but casting himself as a tv star is not among them. Nor is supporting a PBS production that sets its standards at the student film level. One dreams what Ken Burns or David McCullough might have done with with the subject matter and resources (Burns in fact did years ago, but with a different tack). The effort could have been so much better, and should have. See more David F @dfulmer 05/17/2023 The Hollywood Sign is a great short documentary about Hollywood. There is some information about the sign and its history, but this show uses the sign as a jumping off point to discuss Hollywood more generally. Sylvester Stallone recounts his Rocky story, some professors talk about the history of the film industry, and Josh Flagg of Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, of all people, is enlisted by narrator David Rubinstein to drive around in his Rolls Royce and give the real estate history of Hollywood. This is a short show but it is an interesting grab bag of Hollywood sites, sounds, and stories. See more Read all reviews
