Jewish Matchmaking, for all of its silliness, makes it clear to a general audience that, to paraphrase Ben Shalom, there are just as many ways of being Jewish as there are Jews in the world, despite centuries-old efforts to ensure otherwise. Go to Full Review

There is enough here to keep things definitely Jewish without excluding the wider audience any mainstream series needs to survive. Go to Full Review

Jewish Matchmaking is quite watchable, with an empathetic host and a deep dive into an interesting religion. Go to Full Review

Adding a little more interest are the details offered about the diverse ways Judaism is practiced, and the different dating and marriage rituals practiced in different Jewish communities. Go to Full Review

As a dating show, Jewish Matchmaking is very watchable... But it’s not really going to give non-Jewish viewers any real insight into the traditions and mores surrounding marriage in the various sects of the community. Go to Full Review

Paul B @RT78882588 06/30/2023 Aleeza, matchmaker, is breezy, bright and irrepressible in her uphill endeavours to hook up her Jewish singletons. All shapes, sizes and levels of frumkeit (religious observance) her clients pose significant challenges. Stand outs are Ori who comes from an over indulged existence with a list of demands for the perfect woman. He presents as a serious case of arrested development, I would suggest, around the age of 14. In other scenarios we witness eyebrow obsession, more arrested development, and even more 'shopping lists' ahead of meeting anyone. These lists become more like obstacles and significantly rigid. Throughout it all Aleeza remains positive and pragmatic and comes out as the show's real star. The show becomes repetitive as the singletons swap heads and meet up in often stilted and uncomfortable scenarios to discuss the number of children they want or how kosher their diet is. The trouble is that amongst all this list swapping and conditions setting the idea of personality and the chemistry of connection is stifled and left struggling for breath. With body clocks ticking and the debris of previous hook ups dancing around the edges our singletons present as more caught up in these seemingly never ending frustrating encounters than in getting on with life and recognising that you can't always get what you (exactly) want or what you think you want or what your list happens to be today! See more Alice P @RT57007574 05/28/2023 I enjoyed this. For a reality show it doesn't seem fake. Aleeza is insightful and very good at her job. I'm struck by how conceited/clueless a lot of the men are, and how self-aware most of the women are. In my view the women far outclass the men in looks. The women are all beautiful and most of the men are geeky and/or downright unattractive. I would watch another season. See more Hannah L @RT17129865 05/08/2023 Loved this show. Loved the different ages, wants, and religiosity levels (as Fay puts it). The more shallow and the deeper who basically just want a good match. Especially loved Aleeza who is kind and perceptive and gives good advice. Would love to see more, and if any of the women/men found a match! See more Amy B @RT89904598 05/07/2023 As a Jewish person who has been married to a Gentile for 30 years I don't necessarily believe a Jew should just be set up with another Jew for marriage... Also on both sides of my families those who married outside the faith still are married except one and the rest of the Jewish/Jewish marriages ended in divorce (my Jewish/Jewish first marriage lasted 8 months). So I went into this with trepidation and expected it to be filled with cringe worthy moments. I binged until I finally was too sleepy to stay awake. I was impressed and charmed with the wisdom of the matchmaker and her sweet and loving disposition. I really got into the people she set up and that the locations were both in Israel and different states in the USA. It made it interesting that the landscape changed and people were set up doing activities from roller skating to ping pong. Frankly, the Jewish people made me feel proud to be Jewish and that speaks to the quality of this show it showed the Jewish people are warm, bright, beautiful and hopeful ❤️ I hope they will do a matchmaking show of Jewish people being set up with Gentiles. My Gentile husband has always loved Jewish women and I can say from my families experiences Jewish/Gentiles marriages can be the ones that last. See more j m @RT93828583 05/06/2023 This series was amazingly interesting in terms of the complexity of traditional matchmaking within the jewish community. A mind boggling range, from extreme orthodoxy to secular, and all the spectrum in between. Not to mention, the personality, likes and dislikes of each individual as distinct from their religion, as well as their cultural backgrounds. When Aleeza Ben Shalom, a kind of Julia Louis Dreyfus style, gorgeous host, says 'matchmaking is the hardest job in the world' she might be right. Some of her clients are beyond charming, while others I feel could perhaps benefit from some personal coaching. Aleeza does help someone with their dress sense, but clearly omits commentary on her clients personality style. One young women, who was highly convinced of her self worth, comes across frankly like a scary bully. She bitterly complained about someone not complying to her whims and 'infringing on her time'. Her friends look too frightened to comment honestly. When she confronted her date, he just had a nervous smile. One guy suited her, but lived in the wrong place. Lucky for him perhaps. While I'm not sure if these clients are coached and/or selected to behave in specific way to create good television, some of them seem to be in this matchmaking show not for marriage, but something else, whatever that might be. The show really goes from very heart warming, interesting to straight up cringe. See more Alan A @alanhaber 05/04/2023 Good show, really accessible and surprisingly funny. See more Read all reviews
