Hiro Murai's direction injects "Chapter 6" with stylistic flourishes, yet Legion's return to the Clockworks Psychiatric Hospital ultimately succumbs to a sense of stasis.
None of either reality can be any one person's delusion, though, I don't think, because we see too many individual storylines where characters are apart from each other.
Perhaps one of the reasons "Chapter 6" feels a little stale compared to the rest of the season is the fact that we've seen this template before.
And it's a good thing they did hold on to Aubrey instead of dispensing with her after the first episode because to be honest, she was the only truly interesting part of this one, we're sorry to say.
After the frenetic pace of last week's episode, packed as it was with revelations and capped off by a head-turning cliffhanger, this week's installment of "Legion" comes as a welcome breather.
Luckily for us, "Chapter 6" doesn't attempt to trick us into believing that Clockworks is the "real" world.
For while the visual pizzazz is still present and correct, and the cast have a few moments to shine, the whole episode feels self-indulgent and dull compared to anything that has come before.
Aubrey Plaza just secured her first Emmy nomination.
This week's Legion returns to Clockworks Psychiatric Hospital and stays there far too long. The pacing for this series has been inconsistent... but the narrative has never lagged like it does in "Chapter 6."
Hiro Murai directed this episode, bringing his Atlanta and Childish Gambino sensibilities, and just crushed it. The interlude worked as seamlessly as the Bollywood number from the premiere.
When the fact that David is upset can mean terrible things for those around him, the stuff that makes the character who he is allowed to drive the story like plot. "Chapter 6" is a really good example of that.
