The players keep warm what could be a chilly exercise. Go to Full Review

David E. Kelley definitely still has it, but working with some constraints - adapting a novel and/or working with a forceful director like Bender or Jean-Marc Valle - makes it easier for him to remind us of that fact. Go to Full Review

Mr. Mercedes is a fine example of something that has been less frequent over the years -- an effective Stephen King adaptation carried by strong performances and smart writing choices. Go to Full Review

Mr. Mercedes never feels as compelling as a thriller should, especially given how much it has going for it. Although it's punctuated by bursts of gory violence, it often feels overly restrained and controlled. Go to Full Review

The performances are strong throughout the show and writing is solid as well. Unfortunately, even the well-written dialogue is held back. Go to Full Review

The genius of this series was that all of the characters, even the most minor, were so quirky and so well cast that they seemed to have lives that extended beyond their presence on screen. Go to Full Review

Lucile F @lucile_fl 4d Absolutely loved this show. It is compelling from the very first scene. It is disturbing and eerie in a way that makes you want to keep watching despite yourself. The performances of all the actors, even secondary actors, are extremely qualitative. Loved the acting, the story, the unfolding of the plot and everything in between. It is also refreshing to have a show that isn’t scared to kill off characters, so don’t get too attached to anybody! Looking forward to binge watching season 2. See more David H @DavidHHH Feb 3 Very bingeworthy. After perhaps a slightly slow start, I was absolutely hooked. Some of the more minor characters are very nicely done - Brady's work colleague Lou, for example, and Bill's young sidekicks Jerome and Holly. A bit of a weak plot point is what romantic interest Janey might see in Bill's rather disheveled, unhealthy, unwealthy, retired detective without a life, but let's just go with the flow on that one. He presents a certain charm, I guess... See more L. F @RT68678650 Jan 23 Loved the show from the very first scenes! Highly watchable thanks to a brilliant cast, interesting characters and steadily evolving plot. Brendan Gleeson adds layers and depth to his character, turning him into so much more than the "retired cop can't let go of a cold case" cliché. Such a good watch! See more Les N @Vegas628 Jan 4 Addictive, but good. See more Robin H @RT03192037 Dec 19 There are some good characters and dialog, but also major irritations like the remote control mcguffin, the preposterous final episode, and the general stupidity of the lead detective character. See more Svend G @Gandilf Dec 16 While the show has some redeeming qualities, I cannot understand this enthusiasm for a show that requires its audience play dumb. You have a huge serial murder case, basically bordering domestic terrorism, a retired cop who continously interferes with the investigation, two detectives that couldn't care less to do actual police work on this specific case, a police department that doesn't care to allocate resources toward the capture of such a dangerous person. Its unfortunate, because the cast is lovely. See more Read all reviews
