My Own Worst Enemy

Critics Consensus

My Own Worst Enemy sells a potentially ludicrous premise with stylistic verve and a charismatic dual performance by Christian Slater.

Critic Reviews for My Own Worst Enemy Season 1

All Critics (26) | Top Critics (16)

NBC can't be accused of playing it safe with My Own Worst Enemy. It's beyond distinctly different, with more twists and turns than a State Fair taffy-making machine.

The action is pretty non-stop, the stars terrific and, if you're willing to do the work to follow the complicated plot, the show can be lots of fun.

The show's success may depend on whether the public's fascination with Slater trumps its collective attention-deficit disorders.

My Own Worst Enemy holds our interest despite its utter preposterousness because if there is anything Slater knows how to do, it's present a believable head case.

Dec 3, 2018 | Full Review…

A well-constructed puzzle with many layers. It also has a dark sensibility that suits today's mood.

Dec 3, 2018 | Full Review…

There are plenty of dull passages where it's impossible not to ask who these people are, why they do what they do, and how much contempt NBC must have for its own audience's intelligence.

Dec 3, 2018 | Full Review…

The premise is intriguing, the writing is smart and shrewdly funny, and the characters are well-developed and multidimensional.

Dec 3, 2018 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

The visual composition of the show is really its only appeal, so expect the show's action elements to try to win viewers with big 'splosions while the little details get lost.

Dec 3, 2018 | Full Review…

It's a neat little trick aimed at bringing good old fashioned espionage to the small screen for the first time since Alias. And Slater might have the range to pull it off.

Dec 3, 2018 | Full Review…

My Own Worst Enemy might not be the most original show ever, but in delivering slick thrills, engaging dialogue and solid acting, it might keep at least half of your brain occupied for an hour each Monday night.

Dec 3, 2018 | Full Review…

Credit Slater's natural cool for much of the show's success. At times I wasn't sure if Slater does enough to differentiate between Edward and Henry but subtlety may play better in the long run.

They've pulled off an interesting concept and didn't go overboard, keeping it believable enough to not be tripped up with any writing inconsistencies.
