"Mumbai Sky Tower" enjoys a swaggering pace filled with quirky story beats, but the real draw is getting to watch Tulip start to bloom.
This episode was solid, standard Preacher.
Nothing in this jam-packed 45 minutes feels underserved.
Two nights of Preacher in a row has proven to be a very good thing, as this second season is showing to have a lot of confidence increasing the pace while making the characters work.
Preacher's "Mumbai Sky Tower," which is supposed to function as the second half of a two-night premiere, is arguably the stronger of the two episodes.
"Mumbai Sky Tower" proved to be a nice palate cleanser after last night's hyper-violent premiere, slowing down the action a bit and allowing the romance between Jesse and Tulip to blossom.
After a terrific season 2 premiere, Preacher follows up on its renewed focus by letting the road trip deliver more action and a few personal story beats.
Mumbai Sky Tower may not have all the energy of the premiere, but it boasts one of the show's secret weapons in Brooke and allows things to go down a gear to dig into how our characters stand now.
Thankfully most of the episode focuses on the show's strengths, tying up an old loose end, providing Jesse with a new direction for his quest, and reminding us that Tulip has her own history, and her own problems.
This season... so far seems more promising than the first not just because the three leads have hit the road and are mostly working together on the same mission, but because each individual episode seems more focused than most of what we got last year.
Preacher is at its best when it zips along... And so we're on the road again, a welcome change of pace for a show that seems to have an inexhaustible appetite for weird places filled with weird characters who can mess with our heroes.
The best scenes were with Fiore and Cassidy. A vampire and an angel having a pillow fight and some nookie time. How crazy is that?
... Mumbai Sky Tower is its assurance that the previous episode was no fluke. Both episodes have big laughs, cinematic action sequences and strong character beats.
