Patty G @Pattie54 47m I've read the Scarpetta books, but barely made it through the first two episodes. It's heavy on unnecessary exposition. But even more egregious is the Dorothy character. I don't remember Kay's sister being more than a mere mention in the books. Jamie Lee Curtis is an excellent actress, but the "overbearing mother" trope really harms this series. The decision to cast big names like Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis felt unnecessary and misaligned with the characters’ essence. The shift away from the original premise, in favor of a more dramatic and politically correct angle, completely misses the mark. An actress like Amy Adams would have been a better fit, and the added emphasis on diversity feels forced. Overall, it’s a letdown that strays too far from what made the books great. I love all the main actors. However, the continual present/past jumping back and forth is confusing. I can only take a few prior scenes in any show and seeing that this is going to happen in every episode may cause me to quit.
