Some of My Best Friends: Season 1 Reviews

The show is a cute, kind-of-sweet sitcom and nobody can consider themselves truly a target of the goofy humour. Check it out, to be outraged or be amused.

The traditionally older-skewing CBS audience won't be rocked by this generally pleasant, if predictable, series.

This show is like bad dinner theater, except there you do get dinner.

Even with a decent cast... this sitcom arrives stinking of stale ideas and comic desperation. Actually, "Some of My Best Friends" arrives stinking, period.

A little late to the party - "Will & Grace" does this shtick so much better - this mid-season entry nonetheless gets strong performances out of Danny Nucci and Jason Bateman as its two leading men.

"Some of My Best Friends" isn't terrible enough to hate, but it's not promising either. The premise is restricting, narrow and, oddly or not, inhibiting.

[Jason] Bateman gives his character as much intelligence as a show like this will allow.

As derivative as these story lines are, the bright cast elevates them to mildly entertaining. If the writers can ever give this ensemble some creative material, Some of My Best Friends might have a chance.

"Some of My Best Friends" trades on every Italian and gay stereotype possible, but it manages to make these zingers seem fresh thanks to strong performances from [Jason] Bateman and [Danny] Nucci.

Some of the gags are mildly funny, but most of them already seem old.

There are some great one-liners - it's not as witty as "Will & Grace" is at its best, but it has its moments.
Nov 14, 2019
There is nothing particularly fresh about the writing in general.

Cheap stereotypes usually evoke cheap laughs. However, "Some of My Best Friends" doesn't get even many of those from its assembly line of cliches and stock characters.

It's often pretty darned funny.
