Alonzo Sparks would like nothing more than to retire and leave the family law firm -- Sparks, Sparks & Sparks -- in the hands of his two sons, Maxey and Greg, but he isn't encouraged by the fact that the only thing the two younger Sparkses can agree on is Wilma Cuthbert, the hot young Stanford Law School graduate Greg has hired as an associate. In fact, the two men are nothing alike. Older brother Maxey, a skirt chaser, sees nothing wrong with using flashy advertising to promote the firm, while compulsively cautious Greg favors a much more conservative approach -- in everything.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite starring the appealing James Avery, Sparks fizzles out quickly thanks to a rote concept and dearth of laughs.

The storefront law office has as much comic potential as the precinct house in Barney Miller, but the jokes are broader and louder than they need to be, and some of the characters are stereotypical throwbacks to Amos 'n' Andy. Go to Full Review
