No consensus yet.
Kara's role in this plot is largely to act as a foil for James's experiences. That, along with addressing uncomfortable issues head on, inspires some great conversations. Their friendship, at least, is back to being strong.
The ancient relic that the cult is using in the ceremony is exactly what Lena needs to fix Sam. So there's that.
"The Fanatical" gives James his most well-developed storyline since last season's "City of Lost Children."
"The Fanatical" looked as if it would be filler at first glance, but instead it drove the story forward while still taking time to focus on a character that we don't see nearly enough of: James Olson.
James Olsen was the emotional and narrative highlight in this week's episode of Supergirl, and how fantastic that the character who's so often struggled to fit into the show's structure was at the center of such a powerful and memorable scene.
"The Fanatical" has a bunch of intriguing storytelling ideas, all of which suffer from being needlessly crammed into one episode. Still, I tend to prefer an episode that's overstuffed to one that's underdeveloped.
There has been a gallant effort to give the supporting cast meatier storylines, and boy, have the Supergirl actors run away with the opportunity.
