Critic Reviews for Bounty
"Bounty" is a perfectly solid episode of The Walking Dead, with suitably taut plotting and one fresh bit of zombie business.
The bad news is that, in the end, there's a lot of sizzle but no steak as the standoff ends not with a bang, but a slap. And don't get me started on Zeke's side mission and Henry.
A rare win for the communities is no bad thing, it's just disappointing that it had to come in an episode that lacked much in the way of substance.
This week took a nod from films like A Quiet Place, Hush, and Bird Box, which prove that restrictions placed on characters can often bring about more inventive horror -- and, more generally, more inventive storytelling.
It gives us the intensity and white-knuckle anxiety of both a showdown between different groups of humans and the still-vital threat of walkers, but also delivers an optimistic plot allowing longtime characters the chance to do their thing.
Deserves all the chef's kisses, and after all of the chilling and disturbing things this show has done, that one scene ranks very highly on the list, and does so without shedding a single drop of blood.
Yeah, Henry screwed everyone, and I've never missed Carl more.
Ultimately, this was a rather stale episode. The face-off with Alpha was cool, but nothing happened. Then Ezekiel's team encountered a ton of zombies in the movie theater... and nothing happened.
Two halves that make a pretty complete whole episode, "Bounty" shows both The Walking Dead's neglected comic streak and its neglected dread streak.
For the most part, this was an excellent episode that delivered moments of true fear and tension, and even a bit of genuine humor thanks almost entirely to Jerry.
Filled in more of the mystery of what happened during the four-year time jump that led to the communities splitting apart. At this point we still know very little about what occurred, but "Bounty" provides some fresh insight.
Brought back some of the series' best characters, who'd been sidelined for a few weeks.
