The cast, which includes Christina Hendricks, is impressive, but it's dwarfed by the majestic scenery and dusty cliches.

Cinematically shot and twangingly soundtracked, Tin Star was a noirish thriller. Its backwoods setting and eccentric townsfolk would have rung bells for Fargo fans, while Roth was quietly charismatic. The script was gratuitously foul-mouthed, though.

Roth is great to watch and it's very much his character's show.

Tin Star becomes a cat-and-mouse thriller, where the cat has rabies and the mouse escaped from a genetic testing lab that left it with two heads.
