Tomatometer-approved critic
Biography:

Ryan graduated from the University of Victoria in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Writing and a Minor in Film Studies. He puttered about for a few years after that working on various projects before going back to school to become a teacher. Today Ryan teaches junior high language arts and social studies in rural northern Alberta, loving life and spending time with his family.

Favorites:

The all-time favorite is E.T. It might not be the greatest achievement in the history of movies, but I like it a lot. Others on my frequently watched list vary from The Wizard of Oz to The Goonies to Leolo to almost anything by Scorsese. But none are perfect. They're just what I like.

Dinosaurs: Season 4 (1994) 100% EDIT “As one might expect, some [episodes] are better than others but, overall, seasons three and four really showcase the show's strengths.” – Movie Views Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Dinosaurs: Season 3 (1992) EDIT “To the child's eye, there's plenty of cute gags and slapstick humour. For the moms and dads watching, there's great social commentary and added layers of depth to boot.” – Movie Views Feb 7, 2019 Full Review The Muppet Show: Season 2 (1977) 100% EDIT “Originally airing in 1977-78, season two of The Muppet Show saw the puppet variety format honed and perfected.” – Movie Views Oct 4, 2018 Full Review The Muppet Show: Season 3 (1978) 100% EDIT “The third season of The Muppet Show demonstrates the creative genius that went into it. It maintains a very high standard of comedy and imagination but it also shows signs of developing.” – Movie Views Oct 4, 2018 Full Review Laverne & Shirley: Season 3 (1977) EDIT “More interestingly is watching it and seeing just how much television comedies have changed in the last 25 years... Laverne and Shirley are still one of television's best pairings of all-time.” – Movie Views Sep 14, 2018 Full Review X-Men: Season 5 (1996) 50% EDIT “The show always left me wanting more, wondering what happened next. It wasn't so much on the storyline of the week but rather how events tied into the bigger picture and throughout seasons and, even, beyond.” – Movie Views Jul 5, 2018 Full Review X-Men: Season 3 (1994) 100% EDIT “With its tremendous scope and variety of heroes and villains it always offers something fresh. It also takes on a bigger scope than most every other cartoon I watched growing up where the consequences of one episode influence everything that follows.” – Movie Views Jul 5, 2018 Full Review X-Men: Season 1 (1992) 100% EDIT “Filled with big storylines and tons of well-defined characters, X-Men is everything one could hope for, teen or otherwise, in an action cartoon.” – Movie Views Jul 5, 2018 Full Review EDIT “Tells America's story of WWII in a whole and rounded manner that gets to the heart of what was happening on the battlefield and at home.” – Movie Views Jun 6, 2016 Full Review
