05/27/2020 A touching mixture of camping trip, along with discussions of how to shit in the marshlands and campfire chats, to oil pipelines, private / public conflicts and FBI check-ins. I'm not a New Yorker, but it was still touching to be in this post industrial wasteland / marshland with the Manhattan skyline in the distance. All of a sudden the New York of Kim Stanley Robinson's novels seems so much more possible. The sound and cinematography were great, the accidental activist, the fear of fast trains, the entombed daipers discussion: this worked on so many levels. A thoroughly human documentary that takes on the whole industrial-security complex whilst looking at turtles, tides and (theoreticaly) edible weeds. See more 05/25/2020 A different kind of adventure movie in all the best ways! Very approachable and inspiring, Back Water made me want to embark into the outdoors. It also gave me new appreciation for the interstitial spaces around industry and the outskirts of civilization. Amazing cinematography! See more 05/23/2020 What I loved most was the feeling I was a part of the trip, their discoveries and problems felt like they were mine. The area despite being just a few miles from NYC felt like a totally alien landscape. A wonderful adventure. See more 05/23/2020 I loved this movie! It's not often that we get to to see or think of that part of metropolitan New York and New Jersey . It's sad to see how that environment has been abused - the movie is a real eye-opener! I hope this film can help with the restoration of this important place. My congratulations to the enthusiastic and hardy film -makers! The movie is a success! See more 05/23/2020 This movie takes a subject that's frankly depressing - the intersection of climate change, toxic waste, de-industrialization/hyper-industrialization, and urban wilderness - and presents it in a fashion that enlightens even as it frightens. If you're not brave enough to take a canoe trip through New Jersey's chemical corridor - god knows I'm not - than the next best thing is to take a magic trip with these modern day merry pranksters as they take it "furthur".
