Galactic criminal Riddick (Vin Diesel) is on the run, with bounty hunters on his tail. He receives guidance from Aereon (Judi Dench), ambassador from the Elemental race, who informs him that a warrior army known as the Necromongers is annihilating all human life in the galaxy in a bid for universal dominance. The wise Aereon urges Riddick into battle, believing he is the one man who can defeat the Necromongers and their leader, the evil Lord Marshal (Colm Feore).

So yeah, despite all its cliched guff, muddled plot and general unoriginal silliness, the film is (for me at least) quite enjoyable. It does remind me very much of 'Star Trek Into Darkness' in the fact that both films are basically stupid nonsense...but still enjoyable sci-fi romps in their own way. You just gotta look past the crapola and have fun with the science fiction if you can (more here than in 'Into Darkness' I might add). Bet you didn't see this review twist coming, eh.

Pitch Black has been one of my favorite sci-fi films for quite some time, ever since I watched it in theaters and imitated the Vin Diesel and alien face-to-face moment in the parking lot with my friends. The world-building in this follow up is impressive and entertaining, who would’ve thought they’d take it this far. I do recommend it for those that enjoy sci-fi epics, but perhaps its main battle is the clunky / cheesy scriptwriting around Diesel, which can be entertaining in its own right, but they could’ve added a little more sophistication with his dialogue and the dialogue around him to help it mature over time. I don’t think it deserves below a 30% rating, but can see why it’s a turn off for some.

Brilliant. Substantially more than predecessor. Very well written, good directing by David Twohy. Good world building enterprise. Great cinematography and enhanced visual effects makes for believable and fitting ambiance. Deserves much higher "critics" score, as indicated by rival platforms. Stellar cast all excels convincingly in character. If you are a Riddick fan you should be impressed. Lots of outlandish action, spectacle, complex storyline, intrigue, unique concepts, drama, emotion and suspense. Vin Diesel makes more of this than ever before, truly admirable. Gripping and entertaining
