People mostly remember how dark this thing is, and while that's certainly true the movie is also much smarter than a lot of fantasy from this era. There's wizards and magic and a dragon but there's also subtle commentary. No wonder George RR Martin is so fond of this movie.
A fun coming of age fantasy film that has stood the test of time. The effects are no longer as impressive, but the story is worth investing in.
Much maligned, but always fun. One of the best movie dragons of all time (all before CGI dominated every movie creature). Predicable story line, but for the time very entertaining, high watchability.
One of the best sword and sorcery movies of the 80s and arguable the best Dragon movie ever. Think Jaws with a dragon and you're on the right track. The rich backstory of the dragons and sorcerers hinted at in the script adds the gravitas of history to this tale, while Richardson's final confrontation with the incredibly imagined Vermithrax rightly deserves the description of epic.
One of the best sorcerer and dragon films ever. I just love the portrayal of Ulrich the sorcerer by Sir Ralph Richardson.
A forgotten classic that captivated me when i was 8 years old and brings back all the feels even 30 years later. Very dark for a children’s movie. Had me terrified!
A great 80's sci-fi epic with some pretty decent special effects that adds a dark edge to make it feel realistic
This is a film that could do well with a remake. The technology exists now to make this work even better. Still even with its faults it is a fun and well paced fantasy adventure.
One of the better dragon genre movies in existence.
It's got great themes and intense moments with a satisfying final act to boot, but a sense of detachment haunts the entire piece.
