Jerome A @RT39062061 Apr 1 A terrific, accomplished group of actors, especially Eddie Murphy, deliver wonderful performances in this emotionally charged film. The film is extremely wise and it’s emotional content. We see the young who rebel at the disruption by a cook who "invades" the close relationship between mother and young daughter. Wish you her gradually adapt, and then come to love Eddie Murphy, the cook. She grows up before our eyes,, gaining in sensitivity and gratitude along the way. We see the mother gradually grow weak, and her daughter avoiding her because of her heartbreak. Eddie Murphy‘s performance as the cook is exceptional. He is understated, playing a huge range of emotions. The mother’s performance and the daughter’s performances are likewise first rate. The film moves along slowly, but with great interest in the inner workings of the characters. There is a lot to learn here about grace, about tolerance, about heartbreak, and about character. Plot was a bit weak around Charlie's College experiences but a very touching story nonetheless. A mixture of joy and sadness. I highly recommend it.
