"Under Siege" (1992) is an action film that I watched many times as a kid and liked it very much. Revisiting it in 2026 on newly released 4K UHD disk by Arrow Videos was a blast from a past. It looks and sound great on 4K. As of 2026, this is without a doubt the best film with Steven Siegal, and will remain so. It a slick action film directed by Andrew Davis, who a year later created his masterpiece "The Fugitive". "Under Siege" features a first hour so excited, so captivating and involving that in comparison the last 40 min or so felt a bit rushed and to much fast paced. Still, as an action thriller that is basically a "Die Hard" rip off it delivers. Sound is great here, there is plenty of action and a great performances by Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey who both delivered great and over the top performances. They are very entertaining to watch and are very memorable villains that elevated "Under Siege" to another level. Set aboard a hijacked battleship, the film makes smart use of its contained setting to build tension while delivering solid, hard-hitting action. Seagal is at his peak as Casey Ryback, playing the role with restraint and control that makes him a believable hero. The fight scenes are efficient and brutal, emphasizing skill over flash and keeping the action grounded. The real standout is Tommy Lee Jones as Strannix, who brings wild energy, dark humor, and unpredictability to the role. Gary Busey complements him well as a memorable villain. Director Andrew Davis keeps the pacing tight and the action clear, balancing suspense with explosive moments. Overall, Under Siege remains a sharp, entertaining thriller. Say what you will about Steven Seagal now, but in the late ’80s and ’90s, he was the king of martial-arts action. See more Read all reviews
