Critic Reviews for Cougar Town Season 1
All Critics (33) | Top Critics (26) | Fresh (16) | Rotten (17)
A title that the capable executive producer, Bill Lawrence, acknowledges might turn some people off. He needn't worry. The show itself has more than enough power to do that.
Cougar Town's stabs at edgy verbal humor rely on subjuvenile lines about reproductive anatomy.
Cougar Town is more amusing than it might sound here, with Cox's comedic timing a considerable plus.
Cougar Town is downright unwatchable, an agonizingly unfunny gutter-ball that will almost certainly be the first of the new season's shows to be canceled.
If there's anything here, it must be encoded and invisible to the naked eye.
As the woebegone divorcee with an antic streak and a full-blown need to get down, Cox is not believable.
Cox sucks you in so sweetly, who wouldn't swing along for the ride?
We know the rest of the web seems to disagree, but we really think that Cougar Town, like wine and its gorgeous star, has been getting better with age.
How good can a show called Cougar Town be? Well, not great at first. I didn't like the pilot much at all... [But] as I (and the writers) got to know the characters better, the show became infinitely more enjoyable.
Not all modern families are alike. Some are so repellent you might actually prefer to spend time with your own. Yes, I'm talking about you, Cougar Town.
Out of fondness and respect for Bill Lawrence, and seasons one through four of "Scrubs," I think I tried to will myself into loving "Cougar Town." But in the end, the only thing I could really see in the pilot was potential for a better show.
There's some solid comedy and genuine edge to Cougar Town, which is less dumb than its title makes it sound.

May 25, 2015Tried to hard to make it work. Cougar Town season 1 was a disaster with stereotypical stock characters and unbelievable dialogues. Did not laugh at all for the entire duration of the season. Courtney Cox tried and failed.Sylvester K Super Reviewer
