Critics Consensus

Crossfire pits the formidable Keeley Hawes against a band of cartoonishly rendered terrorists, with all coherence and good taste turning into collateral damage.

Ingleby conveyed Jason’s anguish potently, as did the rest of the cast as they whimpered in fear. It was well directed, too, although troublingly the terrorist scenes evoked real-life atrocities a little too closely. Go to Full Review

How many bad shows can a good actor star in before you have to start considering the possibly uncomfortable reality that they are, in fact, a bad actor? Well, this is an experiment that Keeley Hawes seems to be undertaking. Go to Full Review

If the white wine is open and you’ve nothing better to do, it might be a fun thing to watch while simultaneously WhatsApp-ing your pals and attending to your toenails. But boy, it’s preposterous. Go to Full Review

Instead, this Canary Islands-set thriller feels like a lesser version of Anthony Maras’ Hotel Mumbai filled with spiky characters it’s hard to really care all that much about. Go to Full Review

Crossfire starts off giving its viewers some real-life anxiety and then starts to squander that tension almost immediately. To be honest, it’s bad enough we see stories like this on the news; we don’t need to see it as entertainment at this point. Go to Full Review

You have to hand it to Doughty. When it comes to dispensing justice for past or current sins, she is brutal... Ditto Keeley Hawes, who has opened up a whole new career path for herself as a kick-ass mum. Go to Full Review

Jake L @goslow Apr 9 I'm a bit shocked at all the bad reviews of this excellent mini-series. As someone well-versed in trauma, and its interventions, Crossfire gives an accurate portrayal of people caught in the midst of violence and loss, and a clear portrayal of the cloudy aftermath post-trauma. I was deeply moved by this production, the shock and fear of immersion first-hand of those experiencing fear, terror, violence and continued uncertainty, of how horrific experiences continue to follow us, in big and little ways, throughout our lives. People do the best they can, and this is, sadly, an accurate portrayal. See more Matt B @matt1888 Mar 23 The cast of a Tescos advert pick old random "BBC drama" script pages from a tombola drum and head off to Tenerife to film this twaddle. If you were in any doubt this is filmed abroad the camera operator puts a filter over the lens akin to a crinkly Lucozade bottle wrapper. The director shouts "let’s show Hollyoaks what we’re made of!" and hey presto you have Crossfire - utter nonsense. BBC, I applaud you for your consistency - to keep churning out programmes this bad shows some level of dedication and application. See more Nicholas R @RT87950424 Jan 8 This is not only a series made in incredibly bad taste, mimicking an actual terrorist attack, but makes Marvel look realistic in the way characters respond to issues of extramarital affairs while being shot at. See more Brett C @Harvey658 02/04/2023 Stupid twice. Stupid movie about stupid people. See more Pat D @RT41302214 12/27/2022 At first, I saw it as just another 'thriller' with a current twist. But when I let myself go a bit deeper, I saw the constant underlying theme was the life-shattering potential of impulsive self-indulgence without reflecting on possible consequence. And as with so many British productions, none of the characters were formula, one-sided characters. Most had strengths and weaknesses, and weren't as predictable as most pop stuff. Glad I watched it!! See more Dan G @RT77145559 12/15/2022 There isn't one likeable character in this appalling series. Its a pity the shooters didn't find the writer and producer of Crossfire to save us and the cast the ordeal of viewing this. Without doubt the worst show of 2022. See more Read all reviews
