Feed the Beast's visual appeal isn't enough to make up for predictable plotting, convoluted dialogue and unlikable characters.

Critic Reviews for Feed the Beast Season 1

All Critics (43) | Top Critics (26)

That they couldn't finesse the script a little more is a pity, but it wouldn't have saved a show that can't figure out whether its spirit animal is August Escoffier or Guy Fieri.

Oh well. The food looks pretty good. But that's not enough to keep this drama from rising above basic cafeteria fare.

Jun 3, 2016 | Rating: C | Full Review…

It has been developed for AMC by Clyde Phillips (Nurse Jackie, Dexter) from the Danish show Bankerot, and perhaps he will be able to make it all cohere into something less bumpy and predictable.

Jun 2, 2016 | Full Review…

This newcomer does a competent job of setting the table, but when the plates arrive, there's nothing on them.

Jun 2, 2016 | Rating: C | Full Review…

If TV series are like restaurant dishes, then Feed the Beast is one very soggy concoction.

Jun 2, 2016 | Full Review…

In an age of "too much TV," series have to start stronger, hold up longer and leave a better aftertaste... Even if a few select ingredients may make you want to take another bite, each episode ends up a flavorless hodgepodge of expired scraps.

Jun 6, 2016 | Rating: C | Full Review…

When not indulging in porny descriptions of food and drink, Feed the Beast makes do with an untenably far-fetched plot involving vicious gangsters, crooked cops, a brothel-keeper with a heart of gold, and a lot of very underdeveloped female characters.

Sep 21, 2016 | Full Review…

The show has all of the ingredients of a juicy culinary crime drama, but with multiple competing story lines and a weak turn by one of its stars, it's too soon to tell if they'll all come together.

Aug 16, 2016 | Full Review…

Feed the Beast feels like a broadcast network crime underworld show circa 2002 - it feels like same old, same old TV.

Jun 3, 2016 | Full Review…

The storylines center on the tension that arises keeping the fledgling restaurant going. But there is no tension.

Jun 3, 2016 | Full Review…

Feed the Beast manages to be both overheated and undercooked.

Jun 3, 2016 | Rating: C+ | Full Review…

A shame the ingredients of this mopey melodrama, about two losers chasing a dream of opening a swank restaurant in the gritty Bronx, taste so stale.

This show is not as bad as the critics say. At the very least the show deserves 2.5 stars. I'll give it 3 stars though just because I love food and wine. And although the plot isn't anything out of this world, I want to see what happens after the season finale, if the show gets renewed.

    totally entertaining
  • Aug 26, 2016
I don't entirely understand the critics of Feed The Beast. It's an enjoyable feast, with various plots that would do a 9 course tasting proud. For those wishing for a complex and pretentious main course, this may disappoint. It moves from scene to scene well, no slow roast going on here. There are a few interesting story lines going on, and some that aren't so good e.g. the lawyer and her cop father. Overall, it was an enjoyable first season, and I really hope AMC go for a second.

I love this show! I don't know why this only got 24% on RT. The characters are amazing. Although you love to hate some of them, but that is their character and that's why people love shows, because these are not conventional characters. The producer and actors should be proud. I keep telling people to watch this show. I can't stop raving about how good it is. Please make sure it comes back. Yet again another AMC original!! keep the seasons comin'

Awesome show. Definitely want to see season 2.

Been looking for a fresh show with entertaining characters and interesting edge. Throw in the food element and I'm happy with the ingredients this show includes.

The kid who doesn't speak gets annoying real fast. The lead character is incredibly depressing. I really wanted to like this. I got all the way to episode 8 before I had to call it quits. I went to wiki to quickly find out what happened. Bummer.
