Like every screen adaptation of the book... it trims and rearranges the Parisian second half... It’s a framework you can build out in numerous ways. This one opts for the sturdy and righteous. That’s perfectly acceptable. Go to Full Review

There are enough of these howling absurdities to hobble the pacing, which needs to be fast and furious to cover Dumas’ own, and to prevent the viewer from making any investment in the characters. But their stupidity brings a joy of its own. Go to Full Review

Dumas’ story has stood the test of time, and it will probably survive this remake with most of its dignity intact. It’s silly telly for the silly season. Go to Full Review

Estii C @Ester.C Jan 27 High-production value meets top-tier acting; it’s prestige TV at its best. Unlike shorter film adaptations, the eight-episode format allowed Claflin to masterfully transition from a "naive young sailor" to a "cold, calculating" avenger with intense, "hypnotic" micro-expressions. Sam Claflin’s portrayal of Edmond Dantès is a masterclass in acting, and the show’s production value—great casting like Jeremy, Blake—is top-tier. However, I disliked the agenda-driven content, like the kiss between Danglar’s daughter and her teacher. This feels like a awful needless modern addition to an otherwise great classic." Despite that, I am still giving this 5 stars. It was a complete cinema piece—a high-quality production that felt like a masterpiece on every other level. Eight episodes cram in a lot of information, so you best be on your toes to not miss anything because it's all relevant. Now I want to read the book again because it's such a brilliant story. The very best of my year's viewing. See more Ruben T. @Benny777 Dec 9 Sam Claflin, who happens to be one of my favorite actors, did a phenomenal job in his role as Edmond Dantes. This TV show is one of the best TV shows I have seen for acting, score (soundtrack), and the overall performance of everyone in the cast. The only problem I had with the show is that they tried to do a whole lgbt scene with Danglar’s daughter and music teacher. They literally kiss in one scene. Let me put it plainly, IT WAS LOOKED DOWN UPON IN THE 19TH CENTURY!!! I absolutely dislike it when the people making movies/tv shows try to fuse their agenda into it! See more Clotilde B @ClotildeBee Dec 5 I like Sam C as an actor and I'm going to assume he was badly directed in this case. From the get-go the acting is cliche and the story falls flat (which is a crucial point for an epic tale of revenge...). Edmond and Fernand are friends in the book which is why the betrayal stings so much. In this series, Edmond can clearly tell Fernand is jealous and from the start the relationship between the two seems strained. The characters feel flat, wooden, over played. It's an epic story and it feels so cliche it's beyond disappointing. There are many good adaptations of this long wonderful novel (if you like the genre and Dumas) and this one is not one of them. There is a French film that came out 1.5 years ago (2024) that is much better as you can tell Pierre Niney (Edmond Dantes) and the writers love the story and do it justice. Go watch that one! And you'll even hear French names pronounced properly! See more Mikey N Oct 30 One of the best Tv shows of all time, the soundtracks, the story line and the acting everything was perfect from the first episode till the end I really really want to see a new season! Sam Claflin Killed it in that role and i have watched most of the Monto Cristo movies and the other tv show, but this one is super underrated and it’s the best version of that novel … It’s cinema at best… See more Read all reviews
