The Wire goes out with a suitably resonant bang in its final season, craftily maneuvering venturesome motifs and a colorful cast of characters to skillfully understated conclusion.

Even if you came to series five cold, from a Wireless world, you'd have found plenty to enjoy: the way the dialogue is at once naturalistic and aphor-istic [and] the outstanding naturalism of the performances. Go to Full Review

Quite simply, it was the best television drama ever made, and if it's ever surpassed it won't be on this side of the Atlantic. British TV does not have the resources, the scriptwriters or the actors even to attempt something on this scale. Go to Full Review

The Wire isn't the most accessible series. The show lays out a lot of plot strands, forcing the question: Where are we headed? Stick with it, though, and you'll see a remarkable tapestry. Go to Full Review

[Michael K.] Williams quietly dismantled preconceptions about masculinity and sexuality alike and became a hero and icon both on and off-screen. It's not his only great acting role. Go to Full Review

The Wire wasn't afraid to be gentle while laying out a bleaker truth for its viewers, delivering one of the more satisfying finales in television history. Go to Full Review

It's far more satisfying than the dismal end to The Sopranos and it is noticeable that there is nothing that would prevent HBO from making another season of The Wire. Go to Full Review

David L @Falcon1952 Dec 1 I watched the first 4 seasons and started watching the 5th season. The story line became very weak to the point it was not worth watching. The serial killer aspect is simply pointless and too far-fetched, to the point where it feels like a clunky (and unintentional) genre switch. Terrible. See more Gareth v @geewah Jul 24 A slightly uneven but thematically brilliant finale. Season 5 pulls no punches, sacrificing subtlety at times in favor of urgency, but delivers a haunting, unforgettable end to one of TV’s greatest achievements. See more Angel H @RT66740823 Jul 18 Great show!! I'm from Baltimore & it's interesting to watch. I see all those places that most are now gone. They've been torn down, revitalized or commercialized as business parks, hotels, casino if you get close to the Harbor. But I digress..lol The show has an amazing take on the drug trade & the toll it takes on every day life in Baltimore. It didn't skimp on the dark, dirty underbelly of gangs or the police. There was & is plenty of it to go around. This show really did bring a lot of great actors into the forefront. This is definitely worth the watch, I even binge it every so often. It's a great reminder on why as much as I love my hometown, I'll never live there again... See more Florida J @RT97293886 Jun 6 This is possibly the best TV show ever. Definitely in the top 5.
