Even though at first it's hard to understand why this movie was made in these modern times, its sentiment and mood are actually values that are still hard to find but sought after today. It was a pleasant 2 and threequarter hour stay in the company of these people and their search for simple things like tenderness and freedom. I wasn't bored one minute.
A solid drama film with some good acting. Some of the more intimate scenes feel a bit uncomfortable to watch at first, with the more realistic touch, lack of background music etc. Almost feels like peeping into other people personal lives, but in the end it serves the film as a whole.
A wealthy woman, living in loneliness and desolation after her husband returns home from war paralyzed, she finds sexual and romantic consolation in her unlikely relationship with her gameskeeper. Achingly lengthy, nearing three hours in length, and inexcusably cold and naďve, this film inspired by D.H. Lawrence's famous work is only appealing for its visual style in its erotic charge.
Given the reputation of Lawrence's classic novel (which I have not read), one might have expected a crude and marginally pornographic sexploitation movie. Instead, it's the story of the unfolding of a passionate love. There is nothing tawdry in the relationship, not even in the frank and explicit sex scenes. The action takes place in beautiful surroundings, and is filmed by a nature-lover. Despite a flawed ending, this version of Lady Chatterley is a minor masterpiece, and richly deserves the honors it has received.
This was almost three hours too long. The story was slow, the "lovers" were unconvincing n their roles, and I really don't buy that no one knew what they were up to that entire time. The ending was awful after a very slow movie.
