Captain Ron is a movie about trapped suburbanites who break out into romantic seas, but it never really leaves suburbia... Like the Cap'n himself, this movie guzzles up its dreams and ignores the busted engine.
Queasy ocean-going comedy, not helped by Kurt's Robert Newton impersonation.
The scenery is pretty but the movie never makes one wish to be in it.
If we lived in a just universe, Captain Ron, a farce filmed in and around the Devil's Triangle, would simply have vanished into another dimension.
Aside from Russell's shameless performance, the movie is also afflicted with easily anticipated sight gags.
Russell puts in a worthy performance as the irrepressible Ron and Martin Short is typically neurotic as the father.
A bland, seagoing, feature-length sitcom which recycles the displaced-dad theme from the studio's recent hit What About Bob? to little effect.
There's not much worth noting about this Disney attempt at maritime comedy.
Any movie that features a dramatic actor like Kurt Russell playing straight man to a goofball like Martin Short already is sailing on choppy waters.
Director Eberhardt does nothing to elevate this from being anything other than a boring TV movie, and I'm sure if Kurt Russell wasn't in it, that's exactly where it would have premiered.
Eminently missable family entertainment.
Forced Kurt Russell, Marty Short comedy.
Very silly and occasionally funny, Captain Ron is not a recommendable movie but is, at the same time, an unforgettable cult comedy. Who is fan of Martin Short, like I'm, is good to know this rare dumb picture.
A completely corny attempt at a comedy. While Kurt Russell is undeniably funny, that is literally the only thing this film has going for it. The plot is horrible and the acting from everyone else is terrible. It's almost just sad at how cheap and throw away this movie is.
this movie was entertaining enough to get through but it was incredibly silly. ok watch.
what would we do without captain ron?
