Jul 12, 2021Slow, boring, a slog to get through. 3 episodes at 1.5 hours apiece and I couldn't even get past the second episode. I'm no stranger to slow-burn and I actually like a lot of shows/movies that fit that description but for some reason I couldn't get interested enough in the characters and plot of this one to finish it. Halfway through the second episode (of 3 total episodes) and nothing of note happened. Sure, there were whisps of hints of things to come. There was foreshadowing (possibly) and small, strange things but nothing that kept my attention or made me want to "see what happens next". I'm angry I wasted the time I did on this. I'll take some people's advice and spend the rest of my time watching the original film instead. Nothing can be duller than watching almost 2 hours of this borefest except maybe watching paint dry.

Jun 07, 2021I found it as a drama, it's not bad. If you were looking for action then keep looking. Its a mysterious drama of leminis in the mountain's feeling hormonal temptations and other feelings nuns are forbidden from and guilt. The location and visual cam shots are breathtaking. Top notch. Thought it would be a bit darker but it was enough to keep me interested.

Mar 05, 2021Horny nuns in remote Himalayas, ghost is probably not the issue....just isolation and bone

Mar 02, 2021Ok, sadly, somewhat less than the sum of its parts. Yay for the production designers and the location shooting and the gorgeous cast of Nepali and Himalayan background and support. Yay for the truly mind-bending decision to make a show about Anglican nuns going insane in the Himalayas. So weird. I still can't believe someone decided to write a novel about that in the 1930s, but so glad it happened. Sigh for the missed opportunities of a program that didn't commit to a full-on psychological breakdown, OR a full-on haunt, OR a full-on realist drama. OR the fan-service ending that was staring us all in the face and then punted.

Feb 21, 2021The convincing performances, eye catching locale and complex characters make this mini-series remake of a 1940's classic watchable enough while the script makes it so forgettable.

Jan 22, 2021I really enjoyed this although I was left feeling like it could have been longer. Very dreary and almost gothic feeling at points. Very sad and dark story about repression and faith with a hint of the supernatural. Great performances by the cast.

Jan 12, 2021A bit rubbish, pointless, depressing, drawn out. lots of adjectives to describe this three part series.

Dec 30, 2020I don't get all the hate surrounding this. I haven't read the book or seen the film, so maybe this is where comparative bias can seep in. Judging this on its own merits, I would overall say that they could have done better but they still created an engaging drama. Hats off to Gemma Arterton and Alessandro Nivola for their great performances that pretty much carried the show. From the first moment they met you could feel the undeniable chemistry between them. An interesting story which with a bit more time and effort could have been superb.

Nov 28, 2020Black Narcissus 1947 is one of my favorites. I was a bit apprehensive when I saw a mini series was being made, I vowed not to watch. I decided to give it a chance and I was entertained. I think they did a pretty good job. I did like the acting and the slight additions to the story while not changing the story I'm familiar with, yes there was a bit of extra filler but it was fine. It does not surpass the perfection of the 1947 version but they did make it their own and it was entertaining. I would recommend it.
