Midnight, Texas: Season 1 (2017)

Season 1
Midnight, Texas

Critics Consensus

Midnight, Texas recycles too many southern gothic tropes to possess much of its own unique flavor, but it's endearingly idiosyncratic enough to merit attention from viewers with an interest in the occult.

Critic Reviews for Midnight, Texas Season 1

All Critics (28) | Top Critics (9)

Although hardly perfect, it's the most ambitious of the broadcast networks' new scripted series this summer.

Jul 24, 2017 | Rating: 2.5/4 | Full Review…

The tame version of something you grew tired of on HBO years ago.

Jul 24, 2017 | Full Review…

"Midnight's weird, but it's home," a character tells him. It's a good slogan, and maybe a good series in its own offbeat way.

Jul 21, 2017 | Full Review…

It's been a long time in coming -- too long, perhaps. But your patronage is encouraged for a surprisingly assured supernatural saga with at least a little something for everyone, plus non-stop eye candy for one and all.

I just don't see the pieces in place at the center of the cast or in the creative aspirations for Midnight, Texas to be anything more than a PG-rated version of what ought to be a decadent and overblown summer guilty pleasure.

Aug 9, 2017 | Full Review…

... this is definitely a television series that is perfect for a binge - save up those episodes and then give yourself over to midnight.

Aug 20, 2018 | Full Review…

[Bobo and Fiji] have spent virtually the entire season dancing around their feelings for one another, so this is easily the most ~satisfying~ moment of the finale.

Jun 21, 2018 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

Overall, Midnight, Texas is a show with enough weirdness and scares that it'll leave you delightfully jumpy before turning in at night.

Mar 14, 2018 | Full Review…

An overstuffed, often ridiculous supernatural drama that somehow manages to make a town filled with magical creatures seem crushingly dull.

Jul 18, 2017 | Rating: D | Full Review…

As far as the characterizations of the Midnighters goes, even though they all have some interesting things going on, I didn't find myself really being invested in any of them.

Jul 14, 2017 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

What have we learned, class? To never trust this show.

Oct 3, 2017 | Full Review…

... I wouldn't be surprised if this show's biological clock expires at Midnight, and never gets to Season 2.

A great spiritual successor show for fans of True Blood; it is supported by great characters that are delivered by a talented cast!!
  • Jan 05, 2019
GREAT show wish it wasn't being cancelled!
  • Jan 04, 2019
This show has a good balance of short-term storytelling as well as long-term character development leaving plenty of opportunity for mixed storylines and interesting new episodes. A 10 out of 10.
  • Jan 02, 2019
You have a show with everything...diversity. People who are different yet there for each other... Great story lines, great cast...a Must See! Leave the "real world" behind for an hour a week!
  • Dec 14, 2018
Love this show the drama is great. The actors so much so scriptions in the book it's so cool how everything is love this show
  • Oct 28, 2018
While the acting itself isn’t bad the writing is lazy and inconsistent.
  • Oct 05, 2018
Just another tv series that uses the name of a book series because they're too lazy and unimaginative to come up with their own title and characters. Charlaine Harris should have learnt to guarantee creative control over this project after they went so off the rails with true blood.
  • Jun 19, 2018
all the good shows are always canceled too soon. ill never understand it. yes the show is a bit hokey and their graphics arent the best, but the stories, with such an unusual mix of comedy and horror, really make for an entertaining show
  • Jun 06, 2018
