This pulls off a dramatic 180 as it starts off very shaky, muddling, and just very farfetched. But around the very short halfway point it finds a rhythm and just stays with it and becomes a signifcantly better film. It jsut has A LOT of trouble setting itself up and those issues still dog it even in the second half. But it really deserves accolades for how much better a film thise becomes. It's ALMOST good honestly. The setting is memorable, and despite being a pretty straightforward plot with a kind of easy to see twist it's still keeps your attention later on. But it's marred by so many issues along the way. The acting is a bit of a mess. Sometimes it's bizzare like Watkin, forgettable like lots of Deep's performance here, or great like Dutton. But the biggest thing that weighs this down is the clunky dialouge. It's so inconsistent. The tense story has a magnificent performance of Christopher Walken, in the role of the cold Mr. Smith. Unfortunately, the conclusion is weak and could have been much better. My vote is seven. No, I would not call it a film about character development, nor would I want that kind of film in this case. NICK OF TIME is a thriller about a man who is being forced to assassinate a politician by 1:30 p.m., which gives him about an hour. Failure will result in the murder of his young daughter. The story does not waste time with a lot of setup. The threat begins immediately with skaters harassing the kid, then quickly moves into the inciting incident of meeting the bad guys who have planned the assassination. Much of the movie involves the protagonist's attempts to thwart the plan, resulting in a lot of checks but no checkmates. The whole time, I was wondering what I would have done in his shoes. //////////////// I love movies like this that do not try to be more than what they promise. You are not forced to watch days of plot unfold. Every minute counts in this movie, and I found myself feeling tense throughout. It's one of the few movies that actually delivers "nonstop" action, meaning the tension never fully lifts, and even the quieter moments fill you with dread. I give it 3.75 stars for this reason.
