There are enough pieces in place that should make final season of "Black Sails" a shiver-me-timbers fun ride.

Chock full of action and high drama.

Manages to walk a delicate line between relying too heavily on the story to come and winking at viewers who might be looking for the occasional easter egg.

If you didn't watch Black Sails this year, you missed out on a masterpiece.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of wind at the back of the Emmy-winning Treasure Island prequel's final 10 episodes, and not many waves to be made by its exit.

The season looks like it's off to a strong start.

Sound design and cinematography are in top form, and at this point it's almost unnecessary to say each cast member is competing to steal a scene. But it's all in service of the character drama that makes it all matter.

Black Sails threw us right into the center of chaos with an opening onslaught that was both an awesome spectacle and crucial to the story going forward, as perhaps pertaining to Flint vs. Silver.

Black Sails must have the hardest working cast and crew of any TV series bar none.

  • Sep 04, 2020
A great pirate show with lots of action, plot twists, and special effects.
  • Aug 09, 2020
  • Jun 08, 2020
This is probably the best season of television ever.
  • Apr 20, 2020
The Most underrated show... why isn't it more popular? It has got everything, good stories, plots, interesting characters developments, good twists, genius writing!
  • Dec 28, 2019
Binged all four seasons and was sad when it was over. It took me until about episode 4 of the first season, but then I was hooked! Toby Stephens was such a great Captain Flint and loved every minute he was on screen.
  • Jun 25, 2019
Every season gets even better and bigger, this is not the exception, every episode its precious, the cinematography its one new lever, one the best tv shows to be remembered as far time goes, and not to forget the final episode was tricky because we dont know if "Captain Flint" is still alive or is disease, that spark that left you thinking weren't if it is true or not... I truly love it!
  • Jun 14, 2019
Left with satisfying ending and better last season than Game of Throne! Absolutely love everything includes the character, actor, ship battle, the twist, etc. If into piracy and political for Paradise Island then this would be for you. Considered this a masterpiece/
  • Jan 17, 2019
What a terrible excuse for an ending. The last season was tiresome and fundamentally improbably, with far fetched plot devices and absurd discourses about life. These are pirates, people, not philosophers. And the denouement! Seriously? This was all about a pirate captain mourning the loss of his male lover? And the kiss? in public? 150 years BEFORE Oscar Wilde went to jail for gross indecency? What kind of revisionist clap trap are the writers and producers peddling. Scenes and costumes good, but the story lost its way sometime in the middle of the third season.
