News & Interviews for True Detective : Season 2
It's that the second season of True Detective feels ordinary while the first felt extraordinary... The ordinariness is a quality that weighs heavily on True Detective because its cop-show genre is all over TV.
All of the lead actors dig deeply into their roles, with Farrell playing the wary, weary burnout to perfection, and Vaughn shifting into full-throttle intensity.
It may be impossible for it to strike TV lightning twice, but True Detective in its second iteration definitely has a charge.
There's a lot of plot that makes the first couple of episodes a bit difficult to ease into, but at the end of the second episode, Pizzolato's penchant for abrupt violence with a side of freakiness will leave you with panting for more.
True Detective is a very different beast in its second season: less Cthulhu and more garden-variety lizard. It doesn't haunt so much as slither.
Is it the breakthrough, landmark television of the first season? No. But it is a rock-solid crime drama with film caliber production values, intriguing plotting and great performances.
There's no problem with the acting talent or the pungently evocative cinematography, but what we need to know is whether this new series can carve itself a niche distinct from its rather-too-familiar antecedent.
There are virtues in the second season of 'True Detective' that are forming an intimate and strong coherence between the two deliveries. [Full Review in Spanish]
By episode three this year, we're no closer to understanding how any of its leads fit together in their differing dynamics, or which investigation (of several corruption scandals) to follow.
Pizzolatto's writing is not without its irritations, particularly his dialogue... Ultimately, the characters are too fascinating to turn loose of.
Anyone who tells you the original was an instant hit from the word go is lying. It took at least two, maybe three episodes before viewers became fully attuned to its offbeat rhythms. Season two looks like it could be heading along a similar path.
Audience Reviews for True Detective : Season 2
2d agoI couldn't get past the first episode of Season 2. Poorly cast perhaps. To compare Season 2 to Season 1 and Season 3, from the start, had compelling performances and interesting characters.
Mar 20, 2021Exceptional performances by Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams. Dark themes explored thoroughly and plans not working provides for a natural flow of the story. The love life for Vince seems a truer version for Romeo and Juliet. A true masterpiece by the creators and writers to confidently stand the test of time. Highly recommended.
Feb 05, 2021Bad casting, stupid storyline... Soooo slow and full of itself...
Nov 27, 2020The first season is the gold standard, one of the best television series ever created. Bravo to both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Should have stopped there because the next 4 detectives are nowhere close to their brilliance | follow us at @uncle.review
Nov 24, 20207.0/10 — "Pretty Good/Engaging" -(Seen in OCT '20)
Oct 18, 2020Season 2 lacked everything Season 1 had: intrigue, novelty and rhythm, not that it's "ok" on its own. It was pretty slow, being nothing was happening and nothing was escalating. Yet, performances were top-notch and they did bring justice to the blah-blah dialogue.
Sep 25, 2020It's a fraud, don't watch it. There's no good reason to watch it.
Sep 02, 2020This so bad that I was shocked since it followed such a great first season. The plot was all over the place, the acting was wooden and predictable but with the screenplay, you can't blame the talent. The detectives depicted in the show were so inept, I was ready to call in Inspector Gadget to show them what was going on and end the thing.
Aug 28, 2020A stain on series one.
Aug 24, 2020Well , what can I say it was okay. To be honest didnt really like the story of the second season neither did I like the ending but I guess I can just say it was okay, in my books okay is not good but hey it passed time. The strong points of the season was the actors all of the actors really did a expectational job with what they had to work with and they made me carry on watching. Much Love
