Critic Reviews for Castlevania Season 2

While not the perfect season, it certainly delivers on both action and slick, smart writing, somehow doubling down on the "animated Game of Thrones" comparison with thickening plots, intrigue, and a complex cast of characters, both old and new.

Castlevania's second season may occasionally become too slow for some, but the heights that it hits are so high that it's hard to begrudge it for its lethargic pacing.

If you're a fan of the source material then Castlevania is the perfect blend of faithful and inventive that makes for a fun viewing experience, complete with Easter eggs and a genuine love of the games.

It is atmospheric and haunting in its environments and its musical score, and it's still crafted with a lot of love for its source material.

I'm fairly sure I'd die for Carmilla at this point, which might be a little odd since her goal is to enslave humanity and basically keep them as chew toys and juice boxes, but it's hard to deny both her brilliance and skill.

It's the best video game adaptation we have.

Overall this second season marks a big evolution for the series-not in tone or style, but in scope and pacing.

All in all, Castlevania season 2 is a bloody good time.

All told the expanded episode count does the series more favors than faults, and the pieces seem to be aligned by the end of episode six for some much-needed payoff.

With its first season, Castlevania proved that it was one of the best secret gems hiding on streaming. But with Season 2, Warren Ellis and Adi Shankar's series has become one of the best originals on Netflix.

More episodes, yes, but also more mythology, more bloodletting, and more sharply-written dialogue, political intrigue, and social commentary from the inimitable Warren Ellis.

It manages to be faithful to the source material while still making big changes where necessary and emphasizing character growth over mindless action.

Castlevania is solid proof that not every piece of adult-oriented animation needs to be a comedy. Riveting, dramatic, and dark, with an art style as graceful and beautiful as the world it's based in, Netflix has cemented Castlevania as one of its best original series.

This season is very inconsistent. The first five episodes are extremely dull and tedious, explaining everyone's personal stance on everything at an excruciating pace. Then episodes six and seven are the amazing, action-packed spectacle that the entire show should have been, with awesome fights, weapons, monsters, locations, character moments, and spectacle. Then episode eight rewrites all the characters as the least interesting, most annoying versions of themselves with no consistency or relevance to the rest of the show. If you liked the first season, just watch episodes six and seven, and spare yourself the frustration; you're not missing anything. Content warnings: language, gore

Moronic, loud, and bloated, this travesty of a sequel to the stellar season 1 of Castlevania only manages to be a clone of the revolting Game of Thrones sprinkled with bits of Castlevania lore to appease the fans of the franchise.

While the plot is substantial, one cannot help but see that the story is short and rushed. A movie would have been justified. There are countless inconsistencies in the plot as there are secondary characters involved, and there is not much character development. The resource for the effect is undoubtedly good in contrast to the writing of the material; the script was merely tolerable. It's good, but no more than that.

amazing animation, amazing story, great characters

Rushed, relied far too heavily on effects making it all about quick and easy superficial appeal lacking in real substance and effort. Also it had an obviously preachy message to it directed at modern sentiments thereby cementing that it had nothing bold to say and instead focused on the characters to the point that it diverged too much from the action and monster slaying that is so central to Castlevania. Being relateable is one thing, being boring because you're supposed to be deep is entirely another.

Got half way the first episode of the second season to see that they made one of the characters black, figured that if they were already doing sjw bs this early then the rest of the season probably wasn't worth watching. Other reviewers confirmed this for me

Palace intrigue, treason, and a surprisingly moving finale. Best of all, it is pedantically loyal to the source.
