Critic Reviews for Castlevania Season 2

While not the perfect season, it certainly delivers on both action and slick, smart writing, somehow doubling down on the "animated Game of Thrones" comparison with thickening plots, intrigue, and a complex cast of characters, both old and new.

Castlevania's second season may occasionally become too slow for some, but the heights that it hits are so high that it's hard to begrudge it for its lethargic pacing.

If you're a fan of the source material then Castlevania is the perfect blend of faithful and inventive that makes for a fun viewing experience, complete with Easter eggs and a genuine love of the games.

Jan 28, 2019 | Full Review…

It is atmospheric and haunting in its environments and its musical score, and it's still crafted with a lot of love for its source material.

I'm fairly sure I'd die for Carmilla at this point, which might be a little odd since her goal is to enslave humanity and basically keep them as chew toys and juice boxes, but it's hard to deny both her brilliance and skill.

It's the best video game adaptation we have.

Oct 31, 2018 | Full Review…

Overall this second season marks a big evolution for the series-not in tone or style, but in scope and pacing.

Oct 30, 2018 | Full Review…

All in all, Castlevania season 2 is a bloody good time.

Oct 29, 2018 | Full Review…

All told the expanded episode count does the series more favors than faults, and the pieces seem to be aligned by the end of episode six for some much-needed payoff.

Oct 26, 2018 | Full Review…

With its first season, Castlevania proved that it was one of the best secret gems hiding on streaming. But with Season 2, Warren Ellis and Adi Shankar's series has become one of the best originals on Netflix.

Oct 26, 2018 | Full Review…

More episodes, yes, but also more mythology, more bloodletting, and more sharply-written dialogue, political intrigue, and social commentary from the inimitable Warren Ellis.

Oct 26, 2018 | Rating: 5/5 | Full Review…

It manages to be faithful to the source material while still making big changes where necessary and emphasizing character growth over mindless action.

Audience Reviews for Castlevania: Season 2

I'll serve a review for both season 1&2 together. [Spoilers ahead] Season 1 & 2 was tremendous. I was hooked like a fish helpless against the pulling reel. The characters were charming, the dialogue and witty banter was engaging and damn the art and animation is phenomenal. Best moment was feeling Vlad's anguish and rage for the death of Lisa. The only exceptions is Hector and Isaac gives a good first impression as head of the war council only to be total amateurs at it. This was head-slap annoying. The script should have designed the two more tactful in handling the disarray of the council and the plotting against Vlad. This would have demanded Carmilla to also be even more tactful in seducing and convincing the others of her scheme making her short lived success all the more genius. Carmilla should have also been given a better resolution for her conquest for power rather than "I'm doing this because I was spanked a lot by my ex-husband and I'm tired of old men". The lack of a stronger resolution held back the impact her character deserves. And why the hell does Godbrand, the viking barbarian, have an american accent?

Castlevania continues to keep up with my expectations. Some questions here and there, but overall, the TV series is pretty solid and exciting. But all that blood is starting to make me feel a little nauseous. If you are okay with gory scenes though, then I guess you won't have much trouble with the show.

I absolutely love this show. a little bit about me and my background, with, Castlevania. I first played the haunted castle, it was an arcade first prototype for what would later become the Castlevania franchise. Ever since I have loved anything Castlevania.. but then comes along this show .. I thought eh why not can't be that bad right?; I watch a few episodes, even the first ep, and even only a few minutes into the show I .. I didn't like it. I thought what garbage, but then a few years later, I came back, idk why, or what but I started to watch it again and I can't get enough. I love the banter between the character, I also like them as character and the things they have to do and have done. I do see it as quiet a, dark, show. That's okay though maybe a lighter version could be made for like the times when Trevor Belmont & Sypha Belnades.. or is it really Sypha Belnades &~ Trevor Belmont. xD LOL .. I got a kick out of that in the show. I also know it doesn't have all that much humor like that in it, but when there are those moments they are all that much more for it. I really like Trevor Belmont's as a character and how he handles situations before hand and more after the events at Gresit. I also like that other towns folk will get involved with them, I don't mind that they have a simple view of the world that they are in and all that, that's fine. I just really would like to see that more and more as the show progresses. More towns folk like some drifter maybe like Trevor or Sypha just passing through getting into the mess they are in but for their own reasons. I just love the series and I know they will do it justice.

In 19 years of my life, the only anime that has ever intrigued me was the Pokemon series. Castlevania, specially season 2, has completely changed my perspective on animated TV series. The plot is so well done, and the animation looks so well done (the nature scenes you can tell are done differently, to look EVEN MORE realistic). I love the chemistry and charm of the 3 main characters, it just gives off that adventure tone

Incredible follow up to a tough to follow first season that was equally amazing. Recently rewatched it with a friend and realized how much better it was than I remembered. Incredible performances from all new comers and returning voice actors. Great build up and payoff while also leaving more on the table for the third season.

Best Season of the three by far, the action in this one is incredible!
